In my experience ETH is faster, but that's from exchange to exchange so the exchange pools you with other people so the comparison may not be fair.

I actually use litecoin for this. Call me crazy but I prefer to transact in cryptos that aren't sitting ducks for a 51% attack at all times, despite the fact that nobody has yet lost money in one. I hold equal amounts of all the btc forks, but I only ever transact in BTC for this reason
