I am partners with another guy and we own our own Plumbing/Carpentry business.

Let me share with you guys how fucking horrible it is. Literally 100% of the people we employ have some kind of addiction problem. If you require a piss test and a drivers license, then good fucking luck finding enough employees in trades. All of the guys are either on drugs, obese, alcoholics, and/or are up to their eyeballs with alimony and child support back payments.

If me or my business partner are not at a jobsite, you pretty much assume that nothing is going to be done correctly, and if it is, it's going at 1/10th of the speed it should be. My partner is very hard working, but he's more of the money than the skill. He is learning, but he can't be sure of what's going on with the work. I have to be active in some way 24/7. There are no breaks or real vacations.

Most days I go home so exhausted that I don't even have the energy to eat. If you want to do a trade, then settle on getting a union job with some big company. You'll max out your pay ceiling pretty quick, but you will get benefits and pay without all the 60 hour week bullshit.
