Don't you know what a busted growth story looks like? If TSLA isn't growing, there is no reason it shouldnt trade at an automaker multiple. If TSLA stock was marked 0, it would have 50% more capitalization to revenue than VW from their debt alone.

So, long time lurker. I decided to try out robinhood but nearly got the day trader yank because I tried selling on the same day a few times (Whoops. Lesson learned) bright side is I DID make a dollar gain on 20 dollars invested.
I'm setting a year or two to build up liquidity to eventually try doing pattern day trading. Sucks that you have to have 25K in at all times (I only have 7K in savings. I just recently switched jobs). But For me, experience is the best teacher. I watched a few stocks I tied up assets in and saw how people were trading them (I kept the stocks I invested in as below 1 dollar stocks, that way I could track gains and losses more efficiently. I'm essentially in the practice phase right now. Learning the system and how I can make it work for me) and saw first hand how greed and fear can induce sell offs and buying sprees. Because I capitalized on that and closed the day by selling everything, I was able to buy, hold, and then sell to make a profit. 20 dollars is expendable. And it was enough to begin building up a good way of working with the markets to capitalize gains, and take advantage of sell offs.
I wouldn't say I have all the subtleties down. But it was a good learning experience.

You don't trade hype stocks very much, huh? There are certain stocks that defy valuation based on hopes and dreams of retail investing. Professional traders play along with these as well on expectation of assured volatility in one direction or another. Tesla is not a long hodl stock (for now) but there is a lot of money to be made swing trading it. It's also relatively forgiving as the waves are frequent.

Have you ever seen a hype stock die? It looks like this. The tutes are fleeing and retail is buying only to lose 5% on the next day. Lads, TSLA is offering bonds guaranteed by the monthly payments on their customers' car loans. Don't buy their stock, just buy their bonds and if they expire with the stock valued above the strike price you get extra money. It's a no brainier with way less risk as long as they don't go bankrupt in the next 2 years. I believe they have a may 2021 stroke of $310. If it moons you make money, of it doesn't moon you get a small amount of interest, if they fail then... Well you'd be out of money but they are too big to go bust just yet.

The big tinfoil theory is that Elon Musk has a margin call starting at around 180ish from his pledged share loans and the equity will plummet even faster once he is forced to start selling. once the equity cushion evaporates, the bonds will trade much lower as well. The 2025's are already trading at 86 cents on the dollar. The bonds trading lower will make it even more difficult to raise capital even if Moody's doesn't downgrade.

depends on if you have fees. if you have RH, you can spread that out. JNJ and PG are two of my favorite stalwarts but i see the highest dividend growth potential with stocks like MSFT, AAPL, CSCO, SBUX, V, JPM and BLK.

Definitely look at CAGR as well as health of a company. You'll get lower starting dividends with a SBUX, V or CSCO, but you'll also get better yield on cost down the line because of growth

But a JNJ, PG or KO you don't really need to worry about the dividend being raised and paid each year.

https://www.globalresearch.ca/china-food-crisis-more-dangerous-than-trade-war/5677967

>An April, 2019 research report by the Rabobank in Holland, a major world agriculture lender, estimates that actual ASF kills in China are significantly higher than the reported 1 million. They estimate that since initial outbreak in August 2018, deadly ASF has infected between 150 to 200 million of China’s pig population, some 100 times worse than the official numbers and has spread to every province in mainland China. The report states,

>The double blows from African Swine Fever and the Fall Armyworm, combined with the latest escalation of US tariffs on Chinese imports, amid signs that China’s overall economy is slowing significantly, create a potentially dangerous situation whereby hundreds of thousands of Chinese small farmers are likely economically ruined and Chinese domestic food price inflation rises sharply. That is definitely what China does not need at this point.

>“In 2019, we expect Chinese pork production losses of 25% to 35% in response to ASF. Reports of extreme losses (over 50%) are limited to confined areas.” The report adds, “These losses cannot easily be replaced by other proteins (chicken, duck, seafood, beef, and sheepmeat), nor will larger imports be able to fully offset the loss…this will result in a net supply gap of almost 10 million metric tons in the total 2019 animal protein supply.”

Buying options is not necessarily a bigger risk or bigger reward than just buying shares, it just has different risks and different potential rewards. What I ended up doing today is similar to selling the put option I mentioned. I bought shares for $2.02 and sold $2 calls covered for a $0.10 premium. So, assuming that the calls get exercised on 6/21, I make an $0.08 profit per share, so roughly a 4% return for the month. If they don't get exercises, then I lower my cost basis for the shares from $2.02 to $1.92, so that's also good. I believe I also get this quarter's dividend payout since I currently own the shares, so another $0.025 per share. I believe that Robin Hood also uses FIFO accounting for all trades, so if my calls got exercised, I think I would be selling older shares (that i purchased a couple weeks back at a higher cost), so, I think I could potentially save on captial gains taxes later.

The main risks are, first, if the price tanks before the calls expire (which I think is unlikely), I would have a harder time extracting myself from my position. Second, I am capping my potential gains. If the price shoots back up to $3 this month, I will have locked myself into an $0.08 profit.

The point being, and the reason I'm typing out these details, is that options aren't necessarily more risky or have greater potential rewards. In this case, I'm sacrificing higher potential profit for what I think is probably a higher expected profit.

True. Actually, almost paradoxically, by introducing more "risk" with options you can reduce your overall risk in the market than just buying stock alone. I always laugh a bit when normies tell me otherwise.

At the height of my cash flow I had 23,124 sitting in the bank. Which ain't bad. However this was when I was 35/36. Realistically at my age I should've had least 30k or more. If I hadn't been a dumb ass in my 20's buying "trinkets" I would've had that amount. But least I wasn't sitting on a big debt pile so there's that at least.

With AMRN I'll make up for that lost income. Combined with aggressive saving and tax refunds till I retire I'll have built up a nice nest egg. Then I'll still have my T Divvys, my pension and my 401k income.

As far as dividends go? I think ODP and EVC have good dividends (whether they're actually sustainable or even viable companies I can't say). Their options markets are somewhat illiquid though, so you would be hardpressed to sell calls or puts on them for extra income. I'm guessing since you work at mcdonalds, a single stock that's worth a hundred or so (like MCD lol) seems ridiculous, but I would be willing to bet MCD has a much more stable dividend and future outlook than either of the aforementioned and you should make efforts to pursue stocks with good value rather than looking at the price tag alone.

2k a month in dividends/income, is actually, what I'm trying to attempt similarly right now by selling AMD calls every week. I currently rake in about $350 average every week on an account size of $15k-16k (that size includes 1:1 margin). I'm literally just a hundred off from replacing my job completely with that, although I won't quit until I hit 6 figures and can diversify properly. I ultimately plan on diversifying with the following:

>1000 shares AMD
>100 AAPL
>100 MCD
>100 O
>100 STAG
>100 MSFT
>100 KO

That alone is gonna cost me about $85,000 rough to have. Obviously I'll have other stocks too but I really want that as my core portfolio for the dividends and the options on them. I'll be making way more than $2k a month with that kind of port.

I will say though, dividends or selling options, the hard part is just sticking to it. Day after day. It gets easier though, as time goes on. But knowing that it gets easier and not changing a thing about it is the hard part. Trust me man, I make 4% a week right now. My coworkers practically yell in my face "IMPOSSIBLE! 4% A WEEK? YOU'RE GOING TO GO BROKE!" Keep contributing your paychecks, however much you can. You won't be rich overnight. But one day you'll wake up and say, "Holy fuck I am rich."

What I did wasn't very complicated. I noted that ODP was trading about $2.02 and that it looked like a $2 call would sell for significantly more than $0.02 (I sold for premium of $0.10). So I sold $2 call on the shares expiring 6/21 meaning that I would sell my shares to the contract-holder for $2 per share if they choose to exercise the options before the expiration. That means that, assuming ODP stays above $2.00, I should have $0.08 profit per share end of day 6/21, even if the price is lower that $2.10 or even if it goes down. If ODP goes below the $2 strike price, I still keep the $0.10 premium. So what I did more or less is trade higher potential profits if the share price increases by more than $0.08 for a more likely $0.08 or $0.10 profit regardless of what the price does in the near term. This is only a 4 or 5% profit, but that's significantly more than the quarterly dividend yield, which is the reason the poster I was replying to above said he was purchasing ODP.

For what my opinion is worth (not much), I am hoping to make money on ODP on the premise that it's share price will increase to the mid-$2s if not over $3 again maybe in the next year. If that doesn't end up happening, writing options is a way to collect some money in the meantime (though it's hard to get buyers for the $2.50 calls right now), plus the dividend.

There was a time in this country, only a couple generations ago, where the lowest, menial jobs weren't treated with disdain. Everyone was part of a community, together, so even if someone in your town was a janitor or dishwasher or whatever, you still both knew each other and people wouldn't be as rough as they can be now, because there is a disconnect. If you work at McDonalds, every customer you see day after day is a new person that you're seeing for the first and last time (IE, not a person at all)

Interacting with people in that kind of setting isn't easy (for either side), people aren't made for those kinds of interactions. you just have to do the best you can.

Now to be honest making enough to live off of dividends is going to be tough from that kind of job. It won't happen anytime soon. But you can make progress

Well, look at the back page of the may 22nd wall street journal if you can. In the case of tesla, the first quarter results were dismal. Further, even softening by raising a net 2.4 billion did not offset the fact that tesla has a medium term need for external funding. These facts alone should indicate that the stock isn't really worth much. Meanwhile, just below the article you get some examples of how the trade war is affecting american companies. Especially google android. Meanwhile demographic shifts in China means that the debt being leveraged isn't going to help much since declining savings rates stand to weaken its economic growth as a whole.
When it comes to actual product, china handling the bulk of manufacturing means that any tensions over trade will instantly reverberate through the market and cause losses as people decide to leave volatile stocks for safer long term bets.

It's not only feasible, it's doable. Basically, all I do is specialize in writing covered calls (I do credit spreads too but I'll let you investopedia that shit).

Just remind yourself that a call option gives you the right to buy a stock at a certain price for paying a premium. I'm taking the opposite of that trade - I'm willing to sell my shares at a certain price, and I get paid to do it. If the strike isn't met, I keep the shares and sell another call. Since options inherently control 100 shares, you obviously have to have 100 shares per each call you sell. I like to call it a, "Dividend every week."

There's nothing magical about dividends that will make you get rich quick. Companies can also reduce or even halt dividend payments. Stocks paying a higher dividend also won't necessarily produce a higher profit long-term than those with a lower dividend or even no dividnd. Your portfolio would probably need to be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in order to make $24,000. A year in dividend payments. Don't quit your day job.

You are probably best advised to put the majority of your investment money in an index fund tracking the S&P 500 or a "total market" fund rather than buying individual stocks. Also, while I was talking about ODP earlier, that is mostly for potential growth in share price. The dividend is just a nice bonus perk. Also, that is just my Robinhood account. The majority of my investments are in SWPPX (Schwab S&P 500 Index Fund).

>> No.13788990

China has just about tapped out the limits of automation. It's not a matter of industrialization of the argicultural sector either. it comes down to the lack of acreage to sustain the populace, plus a long term bad land management program from their government. Without fixing the root problems, the country will likely begin going pear shaped by 2030 dragging the rest of the world down with it. Especially as the lack of funds leads to an out of control fiscal crisis which could result in wide ranging unrest and potentially even civil war.
I hate to be the political anon but this is kind of what happens when your country squanders resources and implements too many socialist programs. In the end, the populace suffers, and your country goes toes up.

If Trump or China caves and a deal is stuck, we're having a melt up.

it would be alright, i began working out again last feburary, i can already squat and bench press +300lbs again

besides if i remember right you dont have diet like someone from the midwest (4 gallons of whole milk a week, sometimes another gallon of whole chocolate too)

worst case scenario, if i can have shrooms (or something to snort), and maybe some heavy metal music before/durring the fight, it would be fun and thrilling

The only thing I've found "sure" success in is buying the dips in healthcare. We're not getting a single payer system. Only start worrying if you hear Pelosi change her tune on this.

Otherwise, seriously just sit on your hands until you get some REAL opportunities. You're in store for some real good ones, it looks like trump is fine dragging this out.

It's not like people expect to wake up one morning and see that China has descended into Mad Max style chaos, but they've definitely betrayed weakness during this trade debacle. If a nation as obsessed with saving face as China is showing cracks publicly, something is wrong. In the extreme long term (next 500 years) I expect them to become the most dominant economic force on the planet, but they're on the back foot this year and denying that they have problems is dangerously myopic.

Personally I'm in Merck and UNH. I keep hearing more and more about UNH, and I wish I would've bought more, it's run up 12% since I bought.

Pharma's are a little more risky, as Trump has declared that he wants to crack down drug pricing. I still think Merck is a good one to bet on, as their cancer drug Keytruda has been doing very well.

So, I'm in those two and want more, but even though UNH is still about where it was Dec 31st, they feel too expensive. I'm going to hope Bernie uses his magic to make them cheaper again.

ANTM is probably as good as UNH, give or take.
PFE is probably as good as Merck, more or less.

Still, I'm basically a retarded, so I'm not sure if I should be giving advice. You should know that there are people in /smg/ who like giving bad advice though. I mean, that's true for all of 4channel and much of the internet.

Biden is against single payer
Pelosi is against single payer
All the lobbyists and medical/pharma industry are against single payer (and any healthcare reform that would harm them of course)
Baby Boomers, the largest voting block that no one wants to piss off, are terrified of anything that wants to mess with their healthcare as they enter their golden years.

Obama was elected, had a majority (in the house and or/senate, can’t remember but you only need 2/3?) and wanted single payer, but couldn’t pull it off.

You’re right that there’s a risk, and maybe I should have explained that to him more thoroughly, but I think it’s a reasonable bet, and that you could get some more good entry points as the election cycle heats up. Definitely going to want to pay attention to the major themes in politics/the primary debates.

But the Dems haven’t really put forward a viable candidate other than Biden, who wants to keep Obamacare, and probably won’t win.

It seems like an easy win for Trump, as long as we don’t get a major economic downturn and enter into a real recession before November 2020. And if we DO get a real recession, well I think there are definitely worse places to have your money than healthcare.

short term pain is for long term benefit, if everyone plays along fair (and political dick waving doesnt get in the way)
chine needs some opening up, they promised they would when they joined WTO in 2001, and people gave them the benefit of the doubt at first

but its been almost 20 years, somethings gotta give

and besides, if they continue with artificial growth too much, then the crash that could build up would be terrible for the world (entire eastern hemisphere at least, maybe just bad or awful in north/south america, idk)

china was going to have a real test of their system in crisis eventually, its honestly better for them (and for everyone else, to a lesser extent) if they get it over with sooner rather than later

their (modern) communist party has yet to face a true economic crisis, of any magnitude. how they handle one when it eventually comes about will determine if they can continue, or if they need to make changes for long term stability (which again, the sooner those changes are made, the better they will be, long term)

Trump appears to be a good enough catalyst to kickstart this, at the very least helping to make sure a world in recession doesnt get a sudden surprise when china suddenly collapses (causing a ripple effect, which could devastate the entire world if it happened at a bad time)

They might have not had a 'real' depression after Deng reforms but Xi was old enough to experience the Great Leap Forward and just when it was easing, Cultural Revolution. Chinese kept eating babies and just about when it was about to stop, they thought 'better' of it and continued eating babies under Mao.

That was quite a bit more severe than American 'Great' Depression. Current dictator was certainly old enough to experience and remember both, being born in 1953.

Eh, I don't know what the warranty is like but the performance I've seen out of the Tesla Model 3 vs a BMW M3 shows that the Tesla shits all over it.

Maybe they need to figure out a way to make their battery packs modular.

>drive Tesla across country
>battery pack is low
>pull into Tesla service station
>trade your low battery pack for another one of similar mileage, but fully charged
>install into your car
>continue with your journey

It's certainly an interesting concept and I doubt electric cars will die with Tesla. If Tesla goes to $10 I think one of the major tech companies or auto manufacturers will buy it.

Tesla Inc. will probably miss its 2019 delivery target range as the U.S. electric-car maker’s sales shrink in China amid a trade war between the two countries, according to Loup Ventures co-founder Gene Munster.

Munster cut his estimate for Tesla’s full-year global car sales by about 10% to 310,000 vehicles, versus the minimum 360,000-unit target the manufacturer set in March, the analyst wrote Thursday in a report. He also slashed his estimate for China’s share of the company’s deliveries by half.

“We are lowering our numbers as a precautionary measure related to two unknowns,” including China’s probable imposition of tariffs on Tesla car imports as well as other impediments such as new regulations on sales or a potential consumer boycott of U.S. goods, Munster said. Loup’s pessimism on the import fees is a “minority view,” discounting most investors’ view that Tesla will remain exempt because of its investment in a Chinese battery factory, he said.

Tesla shares have fallen 27% over the past month amid weakening delivery figures, and are indicated to open 2.9% lower in U.S. pre-market trading today. Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas, who earlier this week said that Tesla stock could plunge to as low as $10 in a worst-case scenario, held a private call with investors Wednesday in which he said the company is “seen more as a distressed credit and restructuring story.”
