Hey /biz/, can you redpill me on life insurance? I'm a paramedic anticipating a career change to flight nurse and am statistically more likely to die in my present and future careers than the average Joe. I want to have a policy to provide for my wife and infant in the event of my (God forbid) untimely demise. Term life insurance's appeal only seems to be the lower premiums, and permanent insurance has some utility in that I still have the value of what I've paid into it as a pseudo savings account.
Most of the online resources I've come across seem intentionally hard to read and obfuscate the finer details to take advantage of those not well versed in financial lingo. What's the better option? Would I be better off stuffing money in the mattress?

It never hurts OP. Get a 1-2 million term life insurance. Maybe the premium will be lower before you change careers.

Why does that dragon think gold would still be valuable in his own hypothetical scenario. You can’t gaurentee that gold will still let you buy things.
