They aren't paid less for the same work. They work less, by choice or necessity (child rearing, for example) and collect a smaller compensation as a result.

Women do not stay as long in companies thus do not get promoted like men who make careers. They drift from job to job until they can win a lawsuit or cash out on disability, or find a beta provider, or go into academia which is busywork with no expectations.

Women are net tax takers by a huge margin. Even the ones who don't have children and work their entire lives barely break even.
