13562162 No.13562162 [Reply] [Original]

For the last two years I have mainly held my coins on exchanges and now I have decided to withdraw it all and take control over my keys. What wallet should I use? I have only ever used Exodus in the past for a few days. Exodus is not open source.
As for hardware wallets, Ledger is not open source either. Also, what is the difference between Ledger Nano S and X? What about Trezor?

Discuss wallets.

They're actually quite cheap, and they store your privatekey so it is never exposed. Typing your seedphrase into a PC? You're fucked. Trying to use your wallet on a compromised machine? You're fucked. Hardware wallets mitigate this problem.
>>13562162
Ledger Nano X hasn't released yet. I have the Nano S because it already has Monero support, I'd recommend it. Haven't tried Trezor, but they both should be fine.

Do I just generate an address and write the seed on a usb or something, is that all they are?

>> No.13562789

>>13562762
No, because then you'll be exposing your private key to connected devices. IE risk getting it stolen. A hardware wallet is specifically designed to fix this problem.

Ledger nano s. Was 50 bucks. Havent sent any bitcoin to it yet because cashapp is retarded and only lets me send to binance because it was the first address I withdrew to. **MAKE SURE YOU WITHDRAW TO YOUR COLD WALLET NOT GOOKANCE

>> No.13563510

I have a ledger nano s. Works great. Don't get one if you're a mobile only poor fag, the mobile app needs you to do a one time synch to the desktop app before it'll let you use the ledger on your phone. After that initial synch you never need to use the desktop app again. Don't buy the OTG cable from ledger, they over charge for it. I'm thinking about buying other wallets just to try them out for the fun of it, but I honestly have no complaints about my ledger nano s.
