If you run the consumer price index vs USD you'll find that gold should be $550 and and Silver should be $15.38.

You are literally better off putting USD into a stock brokerage (Recommend $JPM since they are buying the silver) than buying gold.

Silver on the other hand has maintained its value. Probably because of industrial usage.

Depending on local and state laws, silver is a reasonable store of value. It's a little clunky and heavy. For day to day financing it's okay, but you will never buy a car or house with silver.
