I actually know the answer to this btw. Around 2010 there was a lot of hype around fuel cell vehicles. Fuel cells need platinum.
Instead, batteries got really cheap and it seems batteries will be the most likely replacement to the internal combustion engine. Platinum tanked accordingly.
