Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

>Is it even okay to have both accounts?

A Vanguard, Schwab, or other broker account is fine for a lower number of transactions.
Some people in these threads (me) like to buy and sell an awful lot of various stocks, buy in and sell out slowly, etc. for that, RH is better, if I had to pay a 5$ transaction on all my RH transactions that would be somewhere in the 25K-50K range, just for the past 4 months.

a 'traditional brokerage ' is fine, but you'll want to limit your transactions - just buying into mutual funds once a month or so.

Well it’s been a bumpy rollercoaster but I finally crawled back from the shithole that is biotech and made all my money back
Don’t do biotech if you’re actually investing. Investing is looking at a company, seeing what they do and whether or not it’s useful and then deciding if they’re growing up or down. If you want to gamble then you’ll have better odds at a casino don’t do biotech. You will lose. 90% of the time and the 10% you do win won’t be enough to recover.
My best picks: CDXS, STM, SCS, and a bank I won’t lost here since fuck you all

VSTM's problems seem to be in sales and marketing. I've stopped trying to DCA because of how much I already have in that one, hoping they report excellent sales number this quarter but I might be a long road.

If your observations are correct, the obvious thing to do would be to buy biotechs as soon as you hear they are starting a trial, then sell right before the FDA announcement is made. I would love to run some simulations on this.

I should start researching a company's management more than their drugs in the future.

Fuck I really hope VSTM got their shit together.

Thanks fren.

If it's that predictable, why doesn't everyone short stonks before the EX date? Or do traders see that coming and engineer a short squeeze...

Sort of. There's also an issue of proportionality. Men are generally bigger and stronger then women, especially upper body strength. If a woman slaps a man as hard as she can, she's going to leave a welt, and maybe cut his face if she's wearing jewelry. If a man punches a women in the chest as hard as he can, he could cause major damage, really break some ribs, maybe worse.

there's no guarantee that a company will succeed every trial it undergoes, and a company will almost always go into freefall at least temporarily if people the words "failed to meet primary endpoint" regardless of the context surrounding it (ex: VTGN, even though it was a small study using its drug not even funded by the company with a patient population significantly different than the one they're aiming for in their ongoing phase 2 trial)

it's better to buy a company that has previous success in trials and outside scientific literature supporting the idea that its drug will work

T will not be another GE. They have already started paying down the debt, indeed so far this year they've paid down more than originally anticipated.

Profit is up. Even after paying down the debt/other expenses and paying out Divvys they still show an excess of free money.

Time Warner + 5G will be the big money earners for them as will the existing phone customers and streaming service subscribers once it's rolled out.

In short T is on track to staying very healthy.

The Harry potter spin off films alone should bring in a nice haul. Still 3 to come out.

>> No.13515143

The stock is staying pretty flat right now cause they are still "merging" every bit of Time Warner into the whole of T. Plus the streaming service and 5G roll out plans are still pretty vague. There is nothing "new" for investors to get excited about right now. Which is good. Means you can take your time and buy up cheap T stock at your leisure.

Well, if you analyze just overall trade volume on each sell off during the run up since January, you will see there has been progressively weaker sell activity on each dip. Only one of them had serious mustard behind it (March 22nd red dildo) while the rest have been either weak volume or good volume but overwhelmed but dip buying bulls. Steady rising trend of oil probably also played a role. These are essentially the same reasons I have been long on the S&P since a brief series of shorts in March.

Doing naked VIX future trades is retarded. Also the cartoons you see about net positioning don't say anything about the actual economic position that funds have considering a lot of them use it as a hedge for SPX option structures.

Id imagine that very little hedge funds have pure short vol exposure through short vix futures. Some could have short-long front-second month in order to capture roll down yield, but that will fuck you hard in a spike.

buying futher dated stuff is indeed better from a premium perspective. The biggest VRP (the amount ur overpaying for options) is embedded in shorter stuff.

the further OTM you go the more risk you take. Imagine Investing 1000 bucks in a 2500 call in the SPX, your gains from this level on are pretty linear, similar to an index future itself.

Now imagine investing 1000 bucks in a 3500 call. There's a large chance it will end up worthless but a big payoff if it does considering its a very cheap option.

VIX index measures the current 1 month implied volatility, The VIX future that expires May 22nd is the front month, the June one is the second month etc.

If you buy the May contract now you are not betting on the VIX, you are betting on what the VIX will be on May 22nd. You are betting on the future number of 1 month implied volatility. If you buy the June contract you are betting on what the VIX will be on the June expiry.

volatility is both clustering and mean reverting, this means that if the VIX index goes up, the May contract will go up, but less. the june contract will go up less than the may one etc etc. this is due to the mean reverting aspect. In a low volatility environment like we are in the value of the Front month will drop quicker than that of the second month. Shorting the front month and buying the second month means you can capture this effect without having an insane short vol exposure.

an event like feb18 will still fuck you though

Just my observation watching volume flow with trading view on the hourly charts during trading hours for dow, s&p, and nasdaq. I'm sure there are much better ways to track this than what I do. Mostly trying to see if there are any unusually large orders pushing through at any particular price point. I haven't seen anything really notable from the bear side since March.

I own some schwab funds, actually. They payout decent gains at the end of the year, since they're smallcap.
based IRA poster is based
For a roth IRA, I'd go with fund. No reason to risk your retirement account, especially when slow and steady wins that race. You can let your dividends/capital gains go untaxed for maximum growth as well. Funds are great since you can invest in dollar amounts rather than single share amounts.
>VTSAX, its basically risk free
careful with that phrase. I understand what you mean (if the indexes are zero, you have bigger problems to worry about) since going to zero is basically impossible. You can always hold past the downturn. The problem comes in practice, when someone can't actually hold due to individual psychology.
Speculation/active trading should be seen as this. It helps take out the emotion aspect if you don't look at your account as "needing" to go up. You can't panic here, even if the money is important to you.

Gonna bag more AMRN. Enough to make it my 2nd or 3rd largest holding. May have to sell some of my low hanging positions but fuck it. I don't got enough in the low hanging ones to really amount to much. AMRN seems to be one of the few biotech stocks with some solid data and shit backing it up. So it's ripe for big gains and profit plus a nice buyout target.

LCI cratered when they lost future profits from Levo. But they have a plan in place thats already under way and going well to replace the profits of that drug by 2020. There is zero threat of bankruptcy. Its undervalued and overshorted.
