if the inflation was 1% off the bat, a few whales/VCs would have bought the entire supply, and you'd be left buying their bags at $500/coin, making them rich for no reason other than scamming and dumping on retail investors (you). VCs and whales have known about grin for years and were waiting just to do that. The logarithmic inflation scheme prevented this and allows you the buy at $2/coin, instead of 500.
