Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

I could have been up 50% if I bought HMMJ instead of this index 7%/year bullshit. Nobody will ever become rich using index funds unless you're already rich. $6 price target on VTGN reiterated today
Massive market overreaction to a small study not even funded by VTGN in a group of patients completely different than the ones they're targeting in their phase 2 AV-101 trial

The difference between the NIMH study's clinical population and the the ELEVATE study's clinical population is the difference between end stage cancer patients and early stage cancer patients
The NIMH study was as a monotherapy (meaning the only treatment used, no other meds at all) for an extremely severe group of patients that nothing else has worked for
Their phase 2 ELEVATE trial is as an adjunct therapy (meaning it's used in addition to other treatments) for MDD, with a patient population that's much less severely ill
No other drug currently approved for treatment would have passed that NIMH trial by definition (treatment resistant patients)
If they fail their ELEVATE trial (entirely different population of patients), then AV-101 is probably fucked tho

It is a dumb way to approach things. Deep conv nets are 10+ year old tech and google has already tried it. Tesla somehow thinks it will find gold doing something everyone else has already tried. But, they have all that map data, they’ve got the edge on AI driving!

Unironically I think EV is dumb. It’s worth developing to reduce reliance on any one commodity, but it is dumb from a thermodynamic perspective. Every time energy changes form, a great proportion of it is lost. Even out most efficient ways of generating power are pretty ineffective at using all the energy released.

Burning gasoline in your car is one step, and while still inefficient, it doesn’t have to go through the heating of liquid-> creating gas-> spinning a turbine -> inducing a current ->

And here’s the kicker -> entering our outdated and hilariously inefficient power grid

We’re getting electricity from a whole host of sources in the US, but last I checked it was largely oil, coal, some nat gas, some nuclear, some hydroelectric, and some wind/solar.

I’m not sure why I bothered explaining this, since I think everyone knows this already. But gasoline is hard to beat for its practicality and efficiency.

Berkshire Hathaway has been buying shares of Amazon. But Warren Buffett isn’t the one behind the purchases.

“One of the fellows in the office that manage money ... bought some Amazon so it will show up in the 13F” later this month, Buffett told CNBC Thursday, on the eve of the kick off of Berkshire’s annual shareholders meeting in Omaha. Buffett was referring to either Todd Combs or Ted Weschler, who each manage portfolios of more than $13 billion in equities for Berkshire.

Buffett has long been a fan of both Amazon and its CEO Jeff Bezos, praising the company’s dominance and the founder’s business prowess. But while Buffett has sung the company’s praises, he’s never bought Amazon shares. So a headline that Berkshire was buying shares likely would spark interest in the markets.

“Yeah, I’ve been a fan, and I’ve been an idiot for not buying” Amazon shares, Buffett said. “But I want you to know it’s no personality changes taking place.”

Look at the Bogleheads link up in the OP for probably the soundest investment advice here. Charles Schwab (just a suggestion) offers low-cost index funds that don't require a large opening deposit. I think the equivalent Vanguard offerings have a minimum $3,000 initial deposit.

Yes, the major Vanguard funds are all $3,000 minimum now.
However, you could always buy the equivalent ETF

Maybe a little before earnings and a little after? I don't think this earnings need to be spectacular.. it's the next few earnings i'm really interested in.
