Well in the case of GME they're doing a stock buyback program plus they bought in a new ceo to turn things around. Got 300 million to do the stock buyback with so yeah at these prices that's a lot of stock getting bought up (or will get bought up). At one time the same bunch who owns Redbox was interested in buying them so who knows if that's still the case today.

Unironically I think EV is dumb. It’s worth developing to reduce reliance on any one commodity, but it is dumb from a thermodynamic perspective. Every time energy changes form, a great proportion of it is lost. Even out most efficient ways of generating power are pretty ineffective at using all the energy released.

Burning gasoline in your car is one step, and while still inefficient, it doesn’t have to go through the heating of liquid-> creating gas-> spinning a turbine -> inducing a current ->

And here’s the kicker -> entering our outdated and hilariously inefficient power grid

We’re getting electricity from a whole host of sources in the US, but last I checked it was largely oil, coal, some nat gas, some nuclear, some hydroelectric, and some wind/solar.

I’m not sure why I bothered explaining this, since I think everyone knows this already. But gasoline is hard to beat for its practicality and efficiency.

Look at the Bogleheads link up in the OP for probably the soundest investment advice here. Charles Schwab (just a suggestion) offers low-cost index funds that don't require a large opening deposit. I think the equivalent Vanguard offerings have a minimum $3,000 initial deposit.
