I'm thinking about doing a nLockTime transaction to lock 100 bitcoins for 5 years because I'm a degenerate gambler. Anyone have any good resources on how to do it? Anyone ever tried it themself?

Yeah, I've played with nLockTime for other purposes.

I would recommend you don't use it for periods longer than a year. While there's no reason to believe it won't work - it will - you're risking that you'll get overtaken by a protocol change and lose it all

I'm definetly wary about this. I probably won't lock down any big amounts for a long time until they have restored and locked down the protocol completely. Is there any easy way to use the loctime function. How did you do it?

I actually hand-coded it. Not the answer you want to hear, but it's the truth.

I was doing this as research into how it works so I was quite literally hand-forming the transaction using command line tools, then submitting it the same way once done. I don't actually know what tool I would suggest a non-programmer use to do it.

Come to think of it, the place I would ask is at the bitcoin stackexchange. Many of the devs of all projects are there. This shithole is only really good for artisinal trolling and salt

Thats really cool. I'm not a hardcore programmer, so doing this myself is out of the question. Hopefully centbee or handcash will add it as a feature soon
