by arbitrage you mean buying and selling exchange to exchange, by gains you mean profit? The exchanges have withdrawal and deposit fees that out weigh your shitty .5 % profit from price discrepancy, also note that the exchanges that would offer the biggest deviation in price from the mean are usually shady af. So not only do you not profit but you'll likely get chinked by the exchange and lose everything too.

What about intra-exchange? I often see coins having 24h highs and lows that exceed exchange fees. Why wouldn't you just set up some kind of automated process to detect when a particular coin hits that known high/low threshold and buy or sell accordingly?
