Is the IT meme real? Is it really just millenials who fix basic computer issues with tech-illiterate boomers and pretend that they are doing more work than they really are? Or is there far more work involved?

I have had different jobs where IT was involved. But the "fixes" they would usually do amounted to no more than unplugging a cable or resetting a router. Basic stuff that anyone could do.

IT tends to gatekeep their work by forcing employees to use crappy buggy outdated software that never works right even with the daily updates it gets. It gives them work to do when something goes "wrong."

There have been plenty of situations where I figured out a solution and moved on. Of course, they try to scare you and God forbid you touch anything. For example, I downloaded a keyboard macro program onto a company computer that made data entry 100x more efficient. Obviously such programs aren't allowed, but fuck the company for making me do more work than I really need to.

On the flip side of things, IT is outsourced mostly to poos who run tech support scams on unsuspecting boomers. It comes full circle, really.
