How fucked am I? Am I even employable? I don't have LinkedIn or anything.

I dropped out of Uni in 2007 to run an online business, which was profitable up until 2015.

From then until now I've been NEET living off my savings. I've attempted a few new businesses but they never panned out. I got into crypto last year and have managed to lose $40k. I have no savings left and a small bit in a retirement fund. I am forced to get a job, there's no other option.

Should I lie on my resume and pretend my business lasted until 2019 instead of 2014? Should I straight up lie and say I worked for other companies? Any advice is appreciated.

Be straight. Say you had a business and it went under. Your other pursuits between 2015 and now should fill in the gaps alright.

Your main point of focus in selling yourself should be that you ran a successful and lucrative business for 8 years. That stands out quite a bit apart from someone who quit Chuck E. Cheese in 2012 and had a 5 year gap in-between it and a job at a gas station. With that alone should you should probably be able to land some relatively easy management position somewhere. You could then use that salary to build a new empire.

I was invested in index funds, but I'd withdrawn a lot to pay bills, I needed something with more earning potential

Thanks anon. That sounds like a best case scenario, I hope it goes down like that. But things seem pretty bleak right now

Lie. You have 0.00% chance of getting a job if you tell the real story. You ran a successful business until last year, or you are still running it and want to diversify. That’s your ticket. Boomers will not hire you if you have employment gaps

>> No.13463048

As a hiring manager I would want to hire you but be reluctant due to the fact that you possess all the skills to leave the business that my other wagies dont. You better stand out buck.

Experienced long term unemployed anon here:

straight out lie, you have no other chance. you are literally competing with people who have straight CV's. honesty will just get your application straight to the bin. the more outrageous the lie, the better. the trick is to keep it STILL believable.

IMPORTANT:
Dont forget you compete with normal
people that have a -more or less- normal career progression - they also PIMP their CV to a certain degree. Let alone regular vs them you wont make it, and if you compete against some Guy who pimped/"optimized" his CV as well your chances are no longer zero but negative!

Employers know that roughly 1 out of 3 CV's is filled with lies (yes, it's that bad). If you work in an HR department on personell selection you are constantly deciding between Nobelprize Winners and NFL Quarterbacks. Seriously either apply at McD, straight out lie your ass off or DONT EVEN TRY.
