STEM is rather safe cause you have actually to put in the work to pass the exams. I did both, Stem and Non-Stem degrees, and the effort to pass a Stem Exam is compared like 5 to 10x. You can cram Non-Stem Stuff (Business, Sociology, Literature, History, Hot-Air BS etc.) 2 weeks before your exam into your head, puke it on to the paper and pass with a decent grade. That doesn't work in STEM. Cause of that, the lefties get weeded out- its too hard for them and they have never learned some non-BS skill where they are not allowed to make up shit. In IT only 1 out of 8 starters actually makes it to the diploma/Bachelor degree. That's also why there's an increased demand; not only because you gain some real skills that can be of actual use, but also because there are not that many that make it.
