It's 100% obvious and clear that Craig is trying to con his way into Dave's coins, but it's not obvious and clear if Dave actually earned those coins, or if the coins even existed. Like Craig's diplomas, they're probably very fictional coins. It could even be the case that Dave conned the coins from Craig originally, then died before he could con them onto someone else.
