Is getting a BSc in Physics a good financial move?

Its one of those degrees that you have to hit the job/grant lottery to win because otherwise its a shit tier financial move. If however you enjoy the learning and so forth, thats a completely different question.

Physixs jobs don’t pay that well when you could just learn software or do engineering

From what I've read most Physics majors end up in Engineering. But I like that the degree opens a lot of doors, its a very general education that you can tweak as you see fit.

I have a person in my family who has a PhD in Physics, many published papers, some awards and is unironically earning less than a janitor

I mean, working full time doing research...
And this person has a huge IQ, but that’s how it’s paid, it’s a very unfair world

google exists in 2019, teach yourself. only go to school where degrees are needed like MD JD or RN. otherwise its probably a scam and a waste of your time. get school loans and put into bitcoin and it would be a better investment

Sounds like typical NEET advice.

If you are an amazing physicist then yes, either that or make sure that you are a woman, black or trans as it will exponentially increase your odds

Physics is a field that you shouldn't get into unless you're prepared to get a PhD and go become an academic. Bachelor's in Physics ain't shit in industry, might as well get a Bachelor's in ECE or something. My Masters, does get my foot in the door at some places but frankly so would any technical masters. I just loved the field.

It's not a great financial investment, but it's a based major if you're really interested in it. If you're really talented you can end up making a ton of money, but that goes for most (useful) majors. Physics isn't a major you should choose for the money, it's a major you should choose because you can't imagine doing anything else for a living. If you mainly care about money and you're set on STEM then go for some kind of engineering/math/statistics major depending on what you're interested in. My advice would be to go for a major that you're genuinely interested in as long as the mean wage isn't shit. Trust me, there are so many people who study something that they don't like (but the money is good) and end up regretting it for the rest of their lives. If you're talented and passionate about what you do you can end up making a lot of money with any (non-meme) degree.
