tbf, there are a million things in this world we could undertake to learn about, but we don't. Crypto is a mysterious, confusing and slightly unsettling world - like Finance in general but much spookier. told me what bitcoin is gonna do when the person who owns it decides to shut it down one day.

1) btc will go to 100k one day - everyone deeper in this knows it eventually inevitable. it will happen. 100% to 100k (and even more).

We underestimate how hard it is to get into crypto in even the most basic way, mate, really. The barrier to entry for basic fitness like you say, going for a jog once in a while, is not the same as "buying a few bitcoin". Most people would INSTANTLY lose their fucking coins, you realise, kek.

And before even finding a way to buy them, there is the massive hurdle of actually wanting to, when every mainstream notion and sensible person out there thinks and says it's a fucking bad idea. It's not like they're all sitting there thinking they realllly want to buy btc but are too lazy.

They don't WANT to, they don't fucking like it, because it IS risky, it IS volatile, there ARE hacks/losses/scams all over the place. They're not completely wrong, they just have some of the details a bit screwed up.

Same goes for staying in shape. People just make excuses. I can't afford a bike, health food is too expensive, gym memberships are too expensive, I don't have the time to go jogging/cook my own food etc. and then they wonder why they have diabeetus and all sorts of health problems by middle age.

Again, the HUGE difference is that "staying in shape" and "being healthy" are universally promoted as good things, safe things, positive things, incredible accessible and everyone is "meant" to do it.

As a polar fucking opposite:
Crypto is almost universally (outside of our basements) portrayed as something for gamblers, paedos, hackers, a dangerous and volatile place that people are very ill-advised to enter.

You may be autistic, though, and so can't pick up on how other people feel about things and what the "general feeling" is about something.

It's like saying, shit, Afghanistan is actually SUCH a beautiful tourist destination with many positives, why are normies so fucking lazy that they don't look past its reputation as somewhere you'd get instantly beheaded, and see it for what it really is?!

I dunno, Coinbase is very normie friendly at this point - the grandparents could even figure it out. I think you can even buy some on a dirt simple Apple Pay UI or something - One of my normie friends did it casually one day as his first bitcoin purchase.
>>13247232
Yeah, this.
>>13246902
But also this - Crypto STILL has a stigma of being for techies, gamblers, criminals, etc. despite how easy Coinbase and other apps might make it. We need a mainstream-friendly use case to help ease that stigma. Maybe something costly in society that can be automated by smart contracts, or some charity system for fast and safe funding by crypto. Then it has to get news coverage/exposure via social media.

Buying, holding, selling on exchanges is easy. The hard part is actually using crypto for its intended purpose and the challenges that come with that I.e. sending crypto across wallets, deciphering gas fees, opening up cdps, registering identities, notarizing documents. Theres a long way to go to make it more user friendly; still its leaps and bounds ahead of the early days.

This is accurate, even people our age will have a difficult time grasping it. Most of us here probably grew up seeing some sort of digital economy develop whether it was diablo 2 items, wow gold/accounts, tf2 hats, or whatever else. If you don't have that background I think it's a lot harder to see the value of owning parts of exclusive information networks over others.

This. Crypto is feeling increasingly like a circlejerk exclusively for /biz/tards and desperate Asians. BTC has had it's brief moment of normie exposure, and it's reputation is now cemented as a 21st century dutch tulip craze. Go check out /r/personalfinance and search "buy bitcoin" if you enjoy this sort of shit. E.g.

>I'm an intelligent person, I work with computers and numbers all the time, but reading how Cryptocurrency worked might as well have been written in Greek.
>I had someone insist that I should be buying BitCoins a couple years ago, but couldn't articulate why I should by them, what they're worth, why random strings of numbers even have worth, or why the value of them was going to go up. Yes, they went up for a while, but then they went way back down, and like 80% of the money he'd spent on those fictional items went up in smoke. The worst part is that I don't even understand why - I recognized that anything that seems too good to be true definitely is too good to be true, but I don't understand what he was buying, why he was buying it, what made it sound like a good idea to buy it, or why the value of it fluctuated.

>It's more or less currency speculation. He was transferring USD to Bitcoin dollars. Those have worth because other people want to transfer USD to Bitcoin dollars. The value went up because a lot more people wanted to trade USD for Bitcoin dollars, which increased the demand for it. When demand increased, people selling Bitcoin were able to charge a higher price when they want to transfer back to USD (I have a bitcoin, I'll sell it for 19,000. Deal.). When everyone wanted to sell Bitcoin back to USD and very little people wanted to buy, sellers needed to decrease the exchange rate to entice people to transfer USD to Bitcoin (I have 1 bitcoin I want to sell, no takers at 19,000? How about 18,000? 17,000? 16,000? and so on). So the question is, will more people want to trade USD to Bitcoin next year? I don't know, it's speculative. I stay far away and recommend others to do the same.

This is from August 2017:
>Bitcoins. Help me out with this possible currency.
>So I'm not sure if I should invest or buy bitcoin or two or three. They're expensive now but if they can only keep getting more expensive should I buy them now and sell them later? Should I even bother? Or should I just put my money in a savings, 401k, or other money making/saving possibility. Any info on bitcoins or assistance with them would be much appreciated

Responses:
>if you don't know the threats to bitcoins like BIP148/149, which split every coin into two separate coins yesterday, the sometimes 1000% fee to transactions a few dollars, or even how the block-chain works, then you shouldn't be buying them.

>Let others talk you out of it or not, but if you go ahead, wait until after the end of August. There's a fork coming and you may as well avoid that.
>A fork you say? What the hell is a fork? If you don't already know what that is, then you definitely do not need to be investing in Bitcoin.
>You ever worried that your bank account might get hacked? All the reasons you are safe do not exist in Bitcoin... If you're not fully versed on encryption key protection you're asking for trouble.
>And none of that has anything to do with the high risk nature of Bitcoin investing.

>Its not an investment. It is a gamble. If you are comfortable taking the amount that you would put into bitcoin, down to the casino, then bitcoin is fine. It should not take the place of your savings, or investments. Consider it the same way you would gambling

>You could consider it a pyramid, I wouldn't say that. I would say it is a zero sum game. Check out my favorite sub /r/buttcoin if you wanna see what you're in for.
>EDIT: Hadn't even checked the sub today and the top post is about an exchange stealing peoples money. Its a hoot to watch all this go down.

The same person who made the last response:
>I mean if you wanna take a gamble go for it. I bought a few coins before Mt.Gox at 200 each and sold them a month later for 1000. I know a lot of the people over on buttcoin have done the same. I'll admit its kinda cool. Its a neat little toy and its kinda fun to play with, but it doesn't do anything that cant be done better, faster, safer. So there really is not a point in it. Dont let it substitute for actual investments or savings though.

This is from December 2013:
>Has Bitcoin reached peak or still a good buy?
>I have heard the hype, just unsure if I should buy in.

Responses:
>Considering that it is nothing more than a pyramid scheme it is an always skip.

>Bitcoin is not a quick money investment. If you think it is, you're doing it wrong.
(probably the only smart comment so far)

>There's really just no way to tell. Some of the best investing minds I read basically say "wait and see". The trouble with bitcoin is that there is no underlying fundamental (i.e. tangible asset, business, future stream of revenues, etc). As such, if you're an investor and not a speculator, there are reasons to have big concerns about bitcoin. It's a good thing to invest in underlying fundamental value; it's not clear what that is with bitcoin.
>Nobody knows whether bitcoin has reached a peak or not. Hypothetical valuations of what it could be worth are all over the map.

>This. The hypothetical value is being propped up by a trade largely illegal in the western world (drugs, child porn) and wealthy eastern europeans using the currency for a variety of legal and legally questionable activities.
>It seems like the value largely depends on both legal action against silkroad and other marketplaces and other world events. At this point with how volatile the market is, it seems like more gambling/speculation than investing at this point.

I do think that have a real scaling solution would bring a lot of cryptos to new heights. The crash was partially caused by the fact btc sucks and wasn't able to keep up during the mania. Huge fees, slow transactions, that scared a lot of people.

Sharing mine

When i want to maie fun of my mother I use her pc and say I'm buying bitcorns. She gets angry cause she doesnt wanna get arrested.

My father on the other hand, i told him price would drop to 3000 (this was before november) and he said, well then we gotta buy. Price came and went, but he didnt buy. Now seeing price go to 5000s he says he will buy if it drops there again. He is very open to the idea, but he is kind of a genius. Came from delivering newspapers at 12 to making 7 figures/year.

So far i convinced 7 people to buy. Not counting him, becausr he didnt buy yet. 3 friends, my gf, her aunt, two sisters.
