>childcare (2 children): $42,000
hire a third-world live in nanny for $20,000
>food for four (includes date nights every 2 weeks) : $23,000
Assuming 'date night' is $200, then after deducting $400 monthly they're still spending $1,500/month on FOOD... wtf?? Food is subject to economies of scale - each marginal mouth costs less to feed than the last. They can easily subsist on $12,000 a month and cut 'date nights' down to $150 every two weeks, for $15,600 total
>three vacations a year: $18,000
three vacations a year? no wonder these boomers feel poor. This could effectively be cut down to ZERO, but let's assume that they still NEED one vacation a year, or $6,000 worth, saving $12,000
>Car Payment (BMW 5 Series, Toyota Land Cruiser): $9,600
Why don't their high-power jobs provide company cars? Why did they get two cars on finance anyway? This is nonsense; either sell the cars or pay them off completely. No more payments!
>Charity (Feed the Children, College Alumni): $18,000
Not too familiar with how charitable contributions and tax work together in the US, but surely if they had donated to lessen their tax burden then this would come out of their pre-tax income, not post-tax? Donating to charity from post-tax income is for idiots. Here we save $18,000 easily
>Undergrad and Graduate student loan debt (10-20 years): $32,000
They pay $32,000 a year in student loan repayments? wtf this can't be serious but whatever
>Miscellaneous (something always comes up): $10,000
This is bullshit. Extraordinary expenses should come out of an emergency fund or credit. Providing for misc. expenses ahead of time creates a mental account that is always emptied before the year is done. Eliminate this and we save $10k.

TOTAL SAVING: $79,000 + $7,300 = $86,300
This money can then be put into a fund (note how their budget only accounted for government/employee-mandated funds, not individual funds, not even an IRA)

skipped mortgage and property tax as that's more of a long-term problem

How old are these kids? Also, how much time are you spending away from home that you need to shell out 21k per child? Anyway, it's an expense that will go away once the kids are in their teens.

>food for four
They're spending 100 USD per week per person on food, which is insane. I suspect it's all those date nights, which are probably wildly overpriced.

>three vacations a year
Just cut it down to two.

>charity
Fuck Feed The Children. Also fuck donating to your alma mater unless it's an Ivy League in which case it's a good idea since it might help your kids get in via legacy admissions.

>student loan debt
Why did they not try to pay this down a bit more before having two kids?

A lot of the costs are just part of living in an expensive area, which I can accept, but some of it is just stupidity.

that's what i can never understand about america. i lived/worked in a foreign country for many years and my combined tax rate there was essentially the same as my state + federal is back here in the usa. obviously a 40% tax rate is cucked no matter where you are on earth, but at least when i was working abroad social services across the board were of a higher standard than in states. not to mention that americans making more than ~125k abroad are still subject to paying income tax regardless of not residing in the fucking country.

Daycare is expensive as fuck and charges per-kid. If you're paying them 20/hour for 10 hours a day (your commute plus work), that's 1,000 per work week so 12,000 per month for 3 kids so 144k per year. Since some of their kids are in school (but might need daycare for work trips or weekends) it averages out to about 1/3 of that.
