not joking around about taxes, should i be paying them? been putting money into crypto since july 2017 but I havent made any significant gains and have cashed out less than 3K $ since that time to pay some bills, my highest value $$ wise in the winter bull run was only like 15K $ at the most, went down a bunch, and now im at like 18k$. I don't wanna get screwed over when [Redacted] takes off so I figured i'd start trying to figure this shit out now.

Since you still haven't turned a profit I wouldn't worry about an audit (since at this point they would have to cut you a check), just be ready to report ALL your trades when you do finally decide to cash out. In theory, you should have enough to pay an accountant to do that for you when the time comes.

Look up Bitcoin.tax and fbar filing requirements. Depending on if your cryptocurrency is still on the exhange or in your wallet, you will need to report if the amount meets the requirements.
