Describe the most extremely frugal life you could stand to live. (Must be independent and not relying on any gibs. You can also choose any location.)

I would just get like a shitty $400-$500 car off of craigslist or facebook marketplace that I would use as a box to sleep in, I'd go somewhere south with moderate weather year round. I'd get a $10 a month membership at planet fitness and use it to shower, use wifi, and work out. For food I'd go on a keto diet where I don't have to cook and just eat a dozen raw eggs and like 4 servings of canned sardines per day. Those two foods are really nutrient dense and cheap. I also might eat some straight butter if I need some more calories. The only nutrient I'd be missing is Vitamin C so I guess I'd just eat a lemon once and a while to avoid scurvy. So it would cost me around $10 a day to maintain my lifestyle assuming the car is already paid for. So I'd just need to get a part time job and only work like once a week to get enough for the week.

So now I'm free to take reckless financial risks knowing I have a backup plan to survive with only $10 a day and would probably live healthier than the average american.

lol. Wasn't even a joke. If I were in ketosis my body could easily convert saturated fat into energy. It would be like eating a bar of fuel. Just don't eat sugar or inflammatory seed oils with it because that's probably what causes heart disease when combined with elevated LDL cholesterol.

a beater car parked somewhere safe will still run about $100 a month in insurance, fees and other miscellanious expenses related to it. additionally, it gets cold in a large part of the US so active heating might be needed, perhaps with a camping stove.

still, it is better than a tent and usually less suspicious, unless of course you are camping in the deep wilderness where nobody will ever care to find you. but then food and wifi dont exist out there :)

i car camped for 3 months in a major IT company's parking lot. their security was too dumb to check the back lot, which was great because i was in range of their wifi and a nearby H Mart which true gentlemen know is the place for da weal kowloon poon

Nah, a car is more bit more stealthy to sleep in. I used to have a Ford e150 and cops would bother me for no reason. I'm not that tall so what I'd do is put the back seat down, and in a sleeping bag lay half in the trunk half, half on top of the seat. I wouldn't bother building out a van or any of that shit that youtubers do. I'd just literally use it solely as a box to sleep in.

OP here. posted from home originally and now posting from my business. I don't care to give any hard proof but in December 2017 I was one of the ones with big enough gains to start freaking out about taxes. (Over 1 million) It was still "ambiguous" whether crypto to crypto fell under like-kind exchange. Since I did a lot of trades between cryptos in December bitcoin.tax was showing that I owed a hefty sum due to realizing gain in "fair market value" that I wouldn't be able to pay if I didn't cash out. Well that fear was enough to make me dump almost everything in January at the first sign of it crashing, I also realized all the other big fish may be thinking the same thing. So that snapped me out from hodling all the way to the bottom even though I had been a hodler through everything else. Then there was an issue where I owed significantly less taxes using LIFO than FIFO. LIFO preserved a lot of my gains as long term gains which had a lower tax rate. It also split my gain up almost evenly into two years which allowed me to double dip into lower tax brackets. But there were no accountants in my area who would be willing to do it because most of them wanted to be conservative and pay the most amount to not get in any trouble. I found one across the country that catered to very "high end" clients and he got into a lot of sophisticated tax strategies like a charitable structure where you'd "donate" but then borrow the money back until you die. But we ended up using LIFO and flooding the IRS with pages and pages 8949 forms and they never questioned anything. Then he recommended me a Merrill Lynch wealth management firm, and I caught some gains from the stock bullrun. They gave me an LMA account that gives you a revolving line of credit so you can keep your money invested but also use it for other investments at the same time. So I used that to start a business.

Stealth van (Ford Transit with the high ceiling) camping around town. I can easily survive eating mostly oatmeal, whole eggs and greek yogurt, things that are inexpensive and easy to prepare, as well as fast food. I think I would actually live like this if I had the "frick you" money to not have to worry about people judging me or needing a steady job. National gym chain membership + van is the patrician life

I don't right now, I know it can be salt inducing hearing about someone getting a leg up but yeah. If I were to lose everything I'd probably live in the car, spend the absolute minimum of money required to live, work any job I can get, and gamble it all on cryptos again because escaping wage cuckery the first time was so good I'd do anything to do it again if put back in the situation.

Working in oil and gas on site. They provide a trailer to live in and pay you a per diem while on site and your working salary. Trailers have wifi, showers, bed, kitchen and tv. Rigs are working every day except for rig move so get a cheap camper and hang out there for about a week then back to work. Clear over 100k with basically only food expenses and all other services provided.

Anyone else keep their house really cold? I've had the thermostat set to 45 all winter and have a space heater I run in the morning for a few hours then periodically throughout the day if it gets too cold but never overnight, and otherwise just bundle the fuck up and use a lot of covers. I also only use the heater in one interior room with no windows and one door I keep closed so I'm only heating a tiny area. Gas and electric has run me $100 a month all winter, whereas others I know spend well over $300 a month (some up to $500) on gas and electric. It's not really uncomfortable either.
