13061146 No.13061146 [Reply] [Original]

Australian ISPs have all blocked access to various 'undesirable' sites including this one.

I'm only able to post this because I have a Skyminer. I used the Skywire network and selected an exit node in Korea to make this post.

This type of censorship will only increase as governments around the world crack down on our civil liberties.

What will you do when the government in your country decides to block Bitcoin transactions, or block all crypto-related websites, or block all encrypted traffic?

Do you think they won't do this, if they feel that cryptocurrencies are a threat to their tax revenue and financial control of the population?

Blocking access to 4Chan and related sites is only the beginning. The world needs Skycoin now more than ever.

Just posted to g.

TPG here and just discovered this. THIS IS INSANE. Remember when the Syrian and Turkish governments were seen as ridiculous for blocking the internet?

They are blocking a WHOLE MASSIVE SITE with THOUSANDS of unique commenters talking about shit unrelated to the shootings.

Liveleak is FULL of videos of people from around the world being killed in terrorist acts, etc. ISIS videos are freely available, videos which were clearly produced with propagandistic intent. How is this any different???

They will NEVER be able to fully eradicate this video. This is so dumb and all the normies defending this are more proof that the internet has been ruined.

Well there you have it, this is the reality of western style liberal democracy all world should aspire to. Bans, blocking, censorship, one correct narrative pushing slowly morphing into full-blown propaganda would turn Goebbels white with envy, protesting or even questioning the legitimacy of any of this results in anything from online lynching resulting in de-platforming, real world social exclusion including pressuring your employer to fire you to banks closing down your accounts and finally jail time.

The other thing is. I was on the other chan after the attack posting comments at least attempting to counter some of the rhetoric of those who profess to support the attacks.

So these ISPs (and yes apparently it's the ISPs not government directly, but the government clearly stated an intent about this and its pressure has played a role here) have not only attempted to violate my right to post on or read ENTIRE SITES where the MAJORITY of posters are not sympathetic to this shit, but they've prevented me from at least attempting to counter those radical views.

I FUCKING HATE NORMIES............. First they took r9k from me, now this!

As crazy as it may sound, back in 2010 or so I was at the lowest point of my life - socially isolated for a decade, I'd just lost my job and was in a really dark place. Finding r9k actually unironically helped me a lot. Being able to talk to other people in situations similar to my own, and to express thoughts, opinions, feelings that I felt unable to express in everyday life very likely saved me.

This is just the beginning. NZ incident has given them the excuse they need.

ISPs all over the world will start blocking 'dangerous' websites.

The powers-that-be want to keep us under control, and they can't do that if too many normies are getting redpilled on sites like biz.

It's time to end the crypto tribalism and get behind the one project that will let us all continue to use our preferred digital currency even when the powers-that-be shut down the Internet.

Not exactly. It's mostly a finance blog with some original content and some content cross-posted from other finance blogs. But your're correct, the owners/editors lean right however and do post a few articles that are only vaguely related to finance but instead are mostly related to geopolitics and libertarian ideas (for example, their reaction to the NZ autist was to defend gun rights). They are critical of US foreign policy and the MSM to the point that they can be accused of being Russian shills.

Zerohedge recently got banned on Facebook, presumably because they are highly critical of the company, but they got unbanned following a huge backlash by people like Donald Trump Jr. and Facebook made some excuse about "algorithms" when everyone knows US tech companies routinely censor political viewpoints that don't lean heavily to the left.

What happens when the ISPs block all VPN traffic or block all encrypted traffic?

Australia's new anti-encryption laws make it very easy for the government to rule VPNs as illegal.

Skywire, when fully deployed, will completely bypass ISPs and allow users to connect peer-peer via antennas, so there is no physical way for the government to block access, other than going door-to-door, searching houses and arresting people with antennas hidden in their attics.

Also, the coin is used to incentivize Skywire nodes, in case you didn't know.

Bitcoin transactions can be blocked. ISPs can block at the application or protocol level, or they can block all encrypted traffic. Bitcoin is not a website, but cryptocurrency-related websites can be blocked (exchanges, explorers, discussion forums etc.). VPNs can be blocked.

>The powers-that-be want to keep us under control
What is weird is that it is the internet service provider.. and we have seen multiple companies doing all sorts of weird "moral" things, without being told or without any mandate of the people e.g. Stops selling fur in retail store, Dick's sporting good stop selling firearms, grocery store stops selling eggs from cage-breed chicken, remove cigarettes from display.
The idea that private corporations superimpose their "morality" upon the citizens, is messed up.. Do corporations even have a morality? or do they just ban these things in order to strengthen their brand-value?

There are no powers that control anything, we are trapped in a spiral of virtue-signalling of corporations, who constantly seek new/fresh way to virtue-signal as it has become their default marketing strategy and they need to keep up with their competitors or surpass them, a slow race toward a decentralized totalitarian society.

Maybe. Until next time they feel like censoring the Internet. Perhaps next time they'll go for a wider range of sites, and make it harder to bypass the censorship.

Also, if those sites continue to host footage of the shooting, why would the ISPs lift the block? IMO they're more likely to further solidify the ban by making it harder to circumvent.

== Now more than ever, the world needs Skywire ==

In the wake of recent events in New Zealand, governments around the world accelerated their censorship of the Internet. Immediately following the Christchurch massacre, ISPs in New Zealand blocked access to sites that persisted in hosting Brenton Tarrant’s manifesto and footage of the attack.

Heavily controlled sites like Facebook, Twitter and Reddit remain accessible, because admins on those sites are quick to remove copies of the material and repress discussions deemed objectionable. But alternative forums like 4Chan and Voat are blocked, because users on those sites remain free to post the manifesto and video, and discuss events openly without fear of censorship. This has led to robust debate on those sites, with many members questioning the official record of events relayed by the mainstream media.

This week, Australia’s major ISPs including Telstra, Optus and Vodafone joined NZ in blocking access to a range of websites deemed to be subversive, including:

4Chan|8Ch|Voat|LiveLeak|Archive|Bitchute|Zerohedge|KiwiFarms

Some of these sites didn’t even host the manifesto or video, and mentioned them only briefly. But they all have one thing in common—they are seen as anti-establishment, libertarian or alt-right in focus, with content mainly posted by anonymous contributors. As such, they are beyond the control of governments.

Regular members of these banned sites consider themselves to be ‘woke’ or ‘redpilled’ compared to ‘normies’ (referring to normal oblivious members of the population). The term ‘redpilled’ comes from the movie The Matrix, in which Neo takes a red pill and wakes up to the true reality of his universe. Members of these sites tend to delve deeply into current affairs, refusing to accept without question the interpretation of events presented by the media.

13068948

As mainstream sites like Facebook, Twitter and Reddit suppress information about the Christchurch shooting, more and more ‘normies’ seek these alternative sites for answers. The-powers-that-be don’t want this, hence the push for ISPs to restrict access.

Currently, it’s still possible to reach these sites using a VPN—the same technology that Australians and New Zealanders use to access other banned sites like Pirate Bay. But this may be only a temporary workaround. Australia’s draconian new anti-encryption laws allow the government to rule VPNs illegal. They can easily instruct ISPs to block access to VPNs, or to block all encrypted traffic.

Where does it stop? Should governments and ISPs really have the power to tell us where we can obtain our news and information? Do they have the right to decide which videos and documents we’re allowed to view, and what opinions we’re permitted to express online?

George Orwell’s 1984 was intended as a cautionary tale, not an instruction manual.

While centralized ISPs remain the gatekeepers to the Internet, governments have the power to control our access as they see fit. They can block individual websites, block traffic at the application or protocol level, or they can simply block everything if they so desire. These same monopolistic ISPs already monitor our traffic, throttle our bandwidth, overcharge for subpar services, keep records of the sites we visit, and sell our private data to advertisers.

The only way to break free from this increasingly dystopian Internet is to build a new physically decentralized global mesh network, in which nodes connect to each other in a peer-to-peer manner, completely bypassing centralized ISPs and government control.

And that’s exactly what Skywire delivers. With almost 10,000 nodes already deployed around the world, Skywire is bringing freedom and net neutrality to the Internet, and placing full control back into the hands of the people.

In the case of CX game/apps, the coin will be used for in-app purchases and trading non-fungible assets.

The coin is need for many of the reasons any other coin is needed.
The coin creates an economy that can be used to motivate actors in the network.
Spending a coin to validate a transactions increase the likelihood of the transaction to be valuable and authentic.
Holding the coin as a "miner" means your validation are more likely to be valid because you don't want to undermine the system.
Holding the coin creates skyhours which will be spent on services. Coins will be the inflationary currency. Hours are the deflationary currency.
This incentivizes a secure and authentic network with the inflationary coins, but incentivizes the transaction of hours for goods and services.

You don't need to incentivise/motivate people to be part of a Bittorrent swarm because being part of that swarm literally /is/ the motivation. Consensus is currently secured by a masternode system, which is a very reliable solution used by numerous crypto projects. As with all masternode-based crypto platforms, the masternode writes blocks into an immutable ledger which is synchronized with all nodes in the network.

Every Skycoin wallet contains a complete copy of the blockchain. Anyone with a wallet can send a transaction which creates a block that is written into the immutable ledger by the masternode and then synchronized with the thousands of other nodes in the network, creating a distributed consensus as to the state of the blockchain.

Since only the masternode writes blocks, Byzantine Fault Tolerance is not an issue and a traditional consensus algorithm or protocol (such as Proof of Work or Proof of Stake) is not currently required in order to secure this consensus.

Below is the code for Skycoin's blockchain and visor, demonstrating UTXO block verification across the distributed ledger. It shows that the blockchain is distributed throughout nodes that connect to each other in a peer-to-peer fashion.

https://github.com/skycoin/skycoin/blob/develop/src/visor/blockchain.go
https://github.com/skycoin/skycoin/blob/develop/src/visor/visor.go

A blockchain is an immutable data structure, and when the blockchains on each node are synchronized, a consensus exists regarding the state of the blockchain. Being an immutable data structure, it is not possible for even a centralized validator node to alter the transaction history without it being very obvious what has occurred.

Even if Obelisk was never released, Skycoin could continue to run quite successfully on this masternode system forever, without negatively impacting Skywire or CX or Skycoin Fiber or any other part of the Skycoin ecosystem. Other major crypto platforms use similar central controllers (for example IOTA).

Not everyone is motivated by that. Some people are motivated by profit rather than altruism.

Community meshnets are great, but existing ones struggle to grow and survive because eventually you run out of people willing to deploy and manage the infrastructure for no monetary reward.

Skycoin's incentives increase adoption by ensuring a greater number of people are motivated. And with almost 10,000 nodes already deployed, it seems to be working.
