Fuck me if this is bait. OK look brainlet. When you short you sell btc at 4000$ in hopes it goes down to 3800$ then re buy the cheap Bitcoin. You are poor so bitmex gives you leverage to play with. The close thing means that you close your short position. This means rebuying the Bitcoin that you sold at a certain price. The opposite applies for longing (buying btc now and selling it for more later) just don't play with high leverage if you don't know what close means.

>> No.13022334

>>13021702
You don't have a choice. Shorting means you are borrowing stock to sell now, in order to purchase back later, which closes the transaction. If you closed it at a lower price, then the difference is your profit. You will always pay a fee since you are borrowing stock to begin with.

Yeah I know this stuff, but I'm fucking autistic, sorry. Since I didn't place my short yet, before doing so I wanted to be sure that "close" refers to a limit order, indeed, to not pay extra fees.

Holy shit, so this is why it's so fucking easy to make money on bitmex. I'm competing against people who literally don't even know how to close a position, besides waiting for the liquidation email.

Good luck fren. I'd recommend against playing the bitmex casino and buying link or eth or btc instead, but that's up to you

So come get my shekels, you're welcome
>>13022493
Thanks man, good luck to you too. I already accumulated my "don't touch" stack. Just wanted to try low leveraging for my first time with spare fiat, asked the close button question only because I'm too much of a paranoid and it's my first take but, for the same reason, I watched closely the liquidation engine for a while. Didn't fall for the bitmex testnet meme, either you try with a calculated risk or you don't learn shit.

>> No.13022625

frens i have a question
what happens if you put the leverage slider on 25x if you already have a (3x) position open on bitmex. i don't follow. your liq price goes way up, but you don't end up with more contracts. what's the point?

>> No.13022633

>>13022597
Yea that's true. I remember my first time. Not even kidding went long on the day it crashed from 6k to 5k back in November. Got my liquidation certificate per email and everything. Was only 100$ tho but ended up making 300$ again. It seemed like it would be to stressful to do regularly and I was just lucky a few times. One advice I'd give you is to check the ichimoku cloud indicator. Most times when the price is about to touch a giant red cloud it dumps. You can look into archive there was an anon who explained how that worked.

I'll give it a shot, thanks. I'm keeping it as simple as possible for the moment, fear and greed index and the smell of barting, no meme lines at all since I'm trying to spot manipulations, apart from historical supports/resistances.

You're using less margin to trade the same amount of contracts. If you want to trade 1 BTC worth of contracts, at 3x you have to margin 1/3rd of a bitcoin. You will be liquidated if mark price moves 33 pct against you (less because of fees).

If you want to trade the same at 25x, you only need 1/25th of a bitcoin. You will be liquidated if the mark price moves 4% against you (less because of fees)

Are you people actually trading on bitmex without knowing these unbelievably basic answers?

>> No.13023040

>>13022959
oh it updates margins even after you're bought in?

>> No.13023199

fren i have a question, if you put leverage 100x and then you press buy, how many seconds you get before you get sniped by a whale? 10 seconds?

>> No.13023236

>>13023040
as in. upload a little money to try a long
open position on 3x with everything on that account. accidentally click the slider.
btc moves against me
>get liquidated
i'm too scared to test out how this works
remember not being able to buy more though
but if mex updates margin, shouldn't I have been able to use a portion of that accounts btc to buy in lower?

if i have insider info that BTC is going to triple digits, how to profit as poorfag without gettibg liquidated. should i short low like 5x until it legs down to 2800 and then crank up the leverage to 100x?

>> No.13023486

>>13023040
Yeah, if you have 10000 contracts, you need less margin at 3x than at 25x.

just short a dollar on 100x it will liquidate in 0.1% move and you'll see how it works
