Anon I've rented my entire life and have dealt with 6 different landlords. Most of them were just fine. Was a total psycho and ended up suing me.

Most landlords are firm and argue because they are tired of people trying to cheat them, and the law generally favors tenants over property owners.

My current landlord owns 8 homes. We have a pretty good relationship. He said it's a 50/50 deal. Half the tenants are good like me, and the other half are lying scum that either stop paying rent or wreck the property.

You would be surprised how many people think they can just keep living in a property for months and not pay rent. They just play the game until they finally get evicted. Which can take a good 6 months. Then the landlord has to sue them in court. Then even when they get a judgement it's usually impossible for the landlord to collect.

All this being said. Any time you rent you should gauge how friendly or lenient the landlord seems. If they seem really firm and unfriendly DON'T rent from them.

As I mentioned above I moved out of one property because the landlord was insane. I was current on rent AND she kept my deposit. After I left she tried to sue me for $3k claiming I damaged the property.

In any case, buy a home and you never have to put up with this shit again.

She was a single 40 year old woman who was fat as hell and no one liked her. I was a fit guy who occasionally had good looking women over for dates. I think she was just pissed off about that and decided to make my life hell as a tenant and then sue me later. Yes women can be this insane and petty.

I've been looking for an apartment near my job for the first time in my life.
I decided to go with a cheapish place that at one point had a bad cockroach problem.
Apparently they had it fumigated but it took over a month.
And it seems like it wasnt a very common issue for the building.

Should I expect them to have more pest issues in the future, or do you think that the issue was solved?
They have a 30 day period where I can back out, so I figure I'll find out either way.
