Being the primary breadwinner is a shit situation since most of the pressure is on you. And, I've found that since my wife is lower-income, it's easy to keep sliding the responsibility over onto my side. I pay all of our healthcare, the mortgage, the downpayment on the house, etc.

That's why I say to be careful if you are in an LTR with someone that makes a lot less than you. Other than dumping them instantly, the only thing you can really do to protect yourself is this: never share any financial info and only pay your half of everything. I tried to do this in previous relationships with some success and should have kept it up.

I don't think she's intentionally fucking my life up (she's not evil) but that's what's happened. The sad part is that I could have probably retired early a few years ago but instead here I am and feel like a fool. A small part of me will honestly always hate her for fucking our future up and another part of me will always hate myself for allowing it to happen.

Marriage in general has the potential to destroy your life but only the potential to increase your happiness a little bit.

But let's say you don't find anything and you're doomed to be a bit bored and lonely by yourself. Think back to my example, to my life. I feel enslaved by someone I resent and the only way out is to gut my entire life and what I've worked for for a decade. Then think if being a bit unfulfilled is really that bad.

And keep in mind that I'm FAR, FAR from the worst-case scenario. Yes, some nights I can't sleep because I'm so angry, but for the most part, I'm still able to communicate with her and other than the financial aspect, she's a sweet person and wants the best for us. If that doesn't scare the piss out of you, then I don't know what will.
