Have you had a good therapist before? All of mine have sucked.

>> No.12991426

find a smart person who you trust and can talk to

really all you need is someone to talk to and then you will figure out shit yourself while you listen yourself talk, this is how most of the progress is made by most therapists, they are really overvalued

pretty much true. a good therapist will help you make sense of whatever you are going through and allow you to come to your own conclusions on the best way to move forward.

it definitely takes trial and error to find a person you get along with and feel comfortable talking to though. keep looking and you will find a good one eventually. the best ones probably have their own private practice and have been working for a while, and their schedule will probably be booked for the next month

I'm thinking of going back to school for therapy, anon. All of my friends look to me as that person they want to talk to in times of distress. Can I practice on you? I've never done it with a random person, but I'd like to get a feel for it to see if it's something I enjoy or not.

find a therapist who believes in god. I've been to many, and I'm not religious myself, but athesit therapists really do psychology for power and control, while saying they do it because they like "helping people". really many of them just like helping their own ego feel powerful. A therapist who believes in god usually does it because he wants to serve god and help save people from their demons. If you dont believe in god they usually respect that too, but their underlying motive doesn't change. The empathy is stronger with someone who genuinely wants to help you for your sake and gods sake. that empathy helps them understand your problems better than someone who just wants to figure you out and "help you" as a currency for their expensive ego

if youre going to study therapy you should know that rule number 1 in therapy is dont help people you are not qualified to help, because its very likely your help will do more harm than good.

I don't really believe you're qualified to tell me what rule #1 is about anything, but thanks for trying to kill my dreams. Plenty of priests molesting children believe in god. Should those children be confiding in them alone behind closed doors? Your logic is profoundly twisted. Sounds like you had one bad experience and have let that shape your entire thought process.

The religious therapist thing is just from my own experience, like I said. Believe me I've spent more dollars on more therapists than any person should in one lifetime. And I'm not trying to kill your dreams, but I was a psych major in college and thats what they told us in nearly every class from start to finish. They said even people with all the degrees and qualifications need to be careful about helping people outside of their area of specification, such as if you specialized in geropsychology and had no experience with child psychology, it would be unethical to take on clients who were children. But yea like others have said, keep looking until you find one that is right

It actually says in the bible that doing anything to a child would prevent you from going to heaven: forever. It actually says in the bible that the sexually immoral are locked out of the kingdom of heaven: forever. You cannot be a priest, and having read the bible, do such a thing if you believe in God. If you believe in God, and fully knowing that his word denounces you to outer darkness if you do it, commit such a sin. Ergo, those men do not believe in God. They're there for the easy job, the free living, and the power / access to children. They are profligates who should be crucified.

He's right, however. Modern "psychoanalytic" therapists generally have high egos and want to fix their broken toys for their own amusement, so to speak. They generally have a terrible beside manner and don't care about your growth as a person: just the clinical cessation of symptoms. Find a Buddhist, a Christian, or even an Islamic one: just don't tip your fedora, as you'll only hurt yourself.

its not to say you dont want a therapist who only uses religous techniques, because that is stupid and if you want that just go see a priest. But what I meant was a therapist with a strong religous foundation will usually be your best bet. just to clarify

Have you tried a therapist specialized in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy? Studies show it is one of the most successful types of therapy for anxiety, depression, and other issues based on negative thinking.

No, I agree wholeheartedly. They need to be an actual licensed therapist who actually has personal beliefs of their own. Not a "Christian/Muslim/Whatever" "counselor" who has no expertise and is more often than not a charlatan who'll just quote platitudes at you.
