so /biz/ I've come into contact with a Chinese individual who says that he's a freelancer but can't accept jobs from American clients without having an Upwork account verified in the US.

so he says he'll pay me $300/month to let him use an Upwork account verified under my name over teamviewer (so its American IP). so who's getting scammed here? I could sure use the money but obviously I'm suspicious

You are. After he defrauds people using the upwork account, you will be responsible for the consequences as you opened the account and agreed to the terms in doing so under your name.

Brainlet thinks it's literally this easy to make money. Doesn't understand that's not how the world works. Life is filled with evil doers, scammers, thieves and scoundrels.

wouldnt he be guilty of a breach of terms of service but not guilty of criminal charges ? If he had enough proof evidence that this other guy was using the account and could convince the authorities that he had no intention of defrauding anyone i cant see how he would be found guilty of anything, he’d probably just get banned from using Upwork.

Still doesn’t sound good though, it behooves a man to uphold a reputation

You basically would be subcontracting with the final responsibility to deliver the results on you.
As long as you assume final responsibility you can make this work, as you have to have to final approval to submit the work.

yeah i mean i totally agree, and it’s probably not going to be fun going through all that, but still.
