>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

the market usually overreacts when they see the words "failed to meet primary endpoint" regardless of context, but that isn't necessarily a death knell for a drug
it may have happened because of an error in trial design or the results may otherwise have been promising enough to warrant further clinical trials
it happens all the time, fampai

ex: Tobira got bought out by Allergan after "failing" their phase 2 CENTAUR trials

Hey options fags..

I've officially dipped my toe into this new world, and want some thoughts/advice on my first option. So I have pic related, grabbed it up 2 days ago for shits and giggles as a way to learn. I'm wondering if I should sell if it's still up in the morning, or let it go until the expiration and see what happens. My concern is that Monday buying+warm fuzzies from US/China trade talks will kill it and bring it back up. I'm leaning towards letting it go on, whicj brings me to my 3 next questions.
> Is the break even price the actual price I need it to drop below to make money?
> How do I calculate exactly how much I stand to make depending on how low it goes?
> When exactly does it expire? It's set to expire 3/8, but is that opening bell? Closing bell? Closing bell the day before?

Any thoughts or advice appreciated.

Here's a graph of your profit/loss over time. Just looking at it quickly unless you expect AAPL to drop below 173 in the next day or 169 before the 8th I'd sell it and take profts. You can make these charts for free on optionsprofitcalculator, its crazy to try and do options without bare minimum doing that. It expires at 4pm on friday the 8th btw.

unless you have special info, it sort of is.
that is what the tens of millions of people who work in finance do all day
when people buy and sell options on stocks they are considering a lot of things. some people on either side of buys/sells aren't considering very much.

but systemic trading strategies like the one that you brought up generally won't generate alpha for you. in this case the implied volatility is 'roughly' priced in.
if you think it is a good strategy you can backtest it or papertrade it forward to find out.

just remember that there are also time effects to things being 'priced in', and that some times 'the wrong things' can be priced in.

but most questions that take the form of the one that you asked can be answered with market forces deciding prices.
price is everything
a good way to learn about how prices form is to ask what things are priced in, and how are they priced in
'value'

I used to trade securities professionally, and let's just say some people build careers on getting lucky a few times (sometimes once).
Alpha is supposed to be the disparity between the fair market value and the actually price of a security.
IMO Alpha isn't in the math but the feeling.
If you do your homework, and then stare at the chart enough, you literally start to feel the moves.

You kind of get sympathetic to it.

That's when you make a fuckton of money.

No, this happens to me too, stick with it anyways. Like the moment I bought NIO, dropped 10 cents. Still a great pick up.

I use limit orders at what I think will be the very bottom of something, and when it finally dumps and hits my limit price it buys it there as the value plummets even further. Happens every time.

>>12894722
basically happens to me every time (you always start losing if you have a fee because they factor that into the cost basis). however i'm close to having 100% of my stocks in my divvy portfolio in the green. Just gotta DCA with IBM, IP, JPM (did DCA when they were at 112, whoops) and T. Still collecting divvies in the mean time.

but price is less important to me than CAGR and health of the company because I don't plan on selling, at least until I'm 84 and want to spend the rest of my days in a Day Spa in Florida getting handies

Anyone loading up on KO today?

Just sounds like bad luck. Happens to me a lot, I just wait and allow myself to lose at most 2%, and it usually turns around.

Market price isn't always in line with B/A spread, because the average/midpoint of the highest B/A is the market "price." Generally if your order is closer to the MP and small enough some big trader or the like will move the price to eat your order. Happened some times when I put orders/had stops triggered though that might be more of a RH thing.

I gambled on put options after TSLA stock soared on news of a "big announcement" the coincidentally happened to be the same week they had a convertible bond due and Musk being held in contempt of court. The announcement was bad news that they tried to spin but no one bought it.

Options are the fastest way to go broke. You need to have a very good idea about what you are trying to do and how much you are willing to lose.

Betrayed my meme pic and sold half of my (mainly sp500 ETF) portfolio.

I'm confident we'll see a better buy-in point later this year.

Considering the fact that they have a fuckton of debt due by the end of 2019 and abhorrent cash flow, I'd say yes, they're a meme.

I doubt they will be able to go through re-financing because of higher interest rates.

Robinhood is good because it has stocks not available through Stash, but you have to buy full shares, on Stash you can put $5 into a stock that costs $20. Both have their pros and cons. Plus RH lets you access some cryptos if that's your thing.
