I've known lots of bosses like this, it doesn't matter if they seem like bad asses, few people want to fire people, having them quit is something they prefer. If you volunteer that you've "found another opportunity" they wil actually be relieved and probably answer your next question in the affirmative, which should be, can I use you as a reference?
