Im in Canada. We have 5 major banks and buying a house is a lot like waiting for an organ donor. My friend had 150k for a deposit on a 400k home, decent credit and still had to get his mom to co-sign. It insulates us from the type of crash that happened in US, 2008 but makes home ownership a fucking pipedream for average folk. You might think this would have a downward effect on housing prices here but we let so many fucking immigrants in each year housing and rent prices in the major cities are astronomical.
The bright side is once you own, it is very unlikely you will lose value on your investment as with US/Austrailia.
