Any HR folks here that can give me some advice about my current employment situation?

About a week ago I was out at dinner when I suddenly passed out, hit my head on a concrete floor, and knocked myself unconscious. This earned me an ambulance ride and a hospital stay with bleeding and a concussion. Since then I've been out of work with terrible migraines, nausea, confusion, fatigue, depression and other odd symptoms that make it hard to function. I cleared the absence with my direct supervisor who was mostly understanding, and took some time to recover.

I tried to return to work today and was immediately chewed out by our chief exec during a 1:1 for all the things that had piled up during my absence. I was also accused of not being "up for the task" and had my character questioned after years of being a loyal employee. The meeting was hugely unprofessional and I told him in the politest way that I had been hit in the head, that he was mistaken, and I wasn't going to take it.

After this meeting adjourned I immediately went to the bathroom and started vomiting and feeling dizzy. My supervisor took me home because I couldn't drive, and I now feel like I'm back to where I was when I first got my injury. Really not thinking clearly now and debating just quitting. I am out of sick days and feel like a slave putting my employer over my health.

How can I make the most of this situation and not totally wreck myself? I know I have huge medical bills coming from my ambulance ride, but I don't think I can handle working anytime soon. I looked into medical leave but I don't believe it would apply to me due to my employer having less than 50 staff, and I don't want to lose my health insurance if this ends up being more than just a few weeks of problems.

Is there any way I can still salvage my life or improve these circumstances?

>tl;dr I have a concussion and can't work, employer is not helpful or understanding with my recovery

As I said, I'm not thinking straight because my brain is damaged.

I hadn't considered. How would I even have a case for something that happened unrelated to work?

>cares more about losing his job than his untreated traumatic brain injury
were you this dumb before you got hit in the head? use your health insurance to get better, then go back to work
if you employer tries to cut you, then you sue the shit out of them
that's the game

Let me spell it out for you. A lawyer will give you better advice than anyone here, and it costs you nothing to call one and ask for advice.

I've been seeking treatment, and my doctor was the one who recommended I return to work today. I'm also not as much concerned about losing my job as I don't want to fuck my life up with massive medical bills and being uninsured.

I will call one. Should I seek an employment attorney or another specialty?

Holy shit. Where I live I wouldn't pay a single cent for this ambulance ride.
Being punished for being "sick". Totally barbaric

See another doctor. If you're this bad then why the fuck did your doctor let you go back to work? This is serious, OP. See a second doctor and tell them everything that you told us.

This. I currently have about 10 unfilled cavities that could easily turn into root canals I can't get filled because I got kicked off my insurance. My new provider Kaiser hardly covers anything and even then I need to wait until July to use it .

I'm going to try to go to Tijuana in march and get my work done
