Lets have a fourth industrial revolution job market thread.
What jobs will disappear?
What careers will be the most important?
Will your job still exist 10 years from now?
Now its the time to think about this anons, you dont want to be a truck driver because you wont have a job pretty soon for instance

Dunno. Probably electrical engineers

Well I work in IT infrastructure and have also worked in SAP consulting

No amount of automation can replace IT infrastructure strategy and implementation. The introduction of the cloud has only made my work more valuable

SAP intentionally makes their products challenging and non intuitive, so I'd say that's also safe, albeit it's completely overrun with Pajeets

early 4th industrial revolution? things that simple robots can do automatically.

80+% of cashiers/waiters/store clerks will be gone. delivery people, taxi and bus drivers, accountants. stuff where a lot of creativity isn't involved but where you need to do a long series of short and simple tasks. then not long after that in a further phase of the 4th industrial revolution youll see construction workers gone as robots start propping up new, cheap, safe buildings. in another phase youll see police forces using tons of robots. then eventually youll have robot doctors. thats probably the most exciting thing to me about the coming decades is increasing human lifespan, i hope we build a future for humans where the robots make our lives great, not a dystopian future. i know that one of the biggest pushers of having a full robot future are the military industrial complex, robots are the perfect soldiers too. they'd be good for a lot of things. so i hope good people build the future and not bad people.

i want to see a world where we're bioprinting organs and unlocking life extension technology, where were getting cheap (free?) but quality and healthy food farmed by machines so that food isn't hard to get for anyone - farming augmented by AI that grows the freshest and best food you can imagine right near your home. building cheaper and more comfortable homes where poor people in 30-40 years live as well as billionaires do now.

remember how our grandparents generation used to marvel at simple things we took for granted growing up? thats how i hope our grandkids feel when they see us saying how great its become.

sorry. no fully automated luxury space communism within our life time.
We don't even have robocars that can handle the chaos of parking lots. Let alone, load inventory into the store safely.

The jobs that I think will disappear disappear are the stupid administrative jobs. Shit like assistant secretary, since file management can be more streamlined.

The jobs that will be most important are the physical labor that robots can't handle.
Even if we can 3D print houses, the wiring, plumbing, etc are going to require human expertise and dexterity.

We could have automated 90% of retail jobs with vending machines decades ago. But we don't pay at the pump. We all stand in line and pay the cashier.

This only exists now because 3rd worlders with infinite time to spend can farm for gold and expensive items TO THEN SELL TO PEOPLE WITH MORE INCOME.

ML has been democratized to the extent that working with it for practical purposes amounts to plumbing work that anyone can learn to do
on the r&d side you're also competing with tech giants who churn out affordable solutions that cover most corporate needs
sure there will be interesting things left to explore, niches where mainstream ML doesn't work well etc., but studying machine learning will not magically make you irreplaceable
you still need to stand out

A lot. Take just one example of driverless cars, and let's assume they're substantially safer at some point than human drivers.

>Automobile wrecks drop 90%

Auto insurance decimated - adjusters, claims handlers, all the support staff

Personal injury lawyers take a huge hit and all their staff

Tow truck drivers, mechanics, take a huge hit.

Orthopedic surgeons have less injuries to fix. Emergency Room cutbacks, nurses, other staff.

>Millions of people out of a job. Entire industries decimated from just one development in tech.

Driverless cars are already a reality. In 20 years every car will drive itself, and car wrecks will drop 90%, which is a good thing. 15 years ago everyone had a flip phone, and emails could take weeks if you attached a 15 page word doc.

No, that's the whole point of 3D printing. Wiring, plumbing, cabinets, will all be printed in. Once the lot is ready, it will take a crew of 4-6 workers to operate the printer and build a house in a few hours.

Kinda. Military is especially keen on making a neural interface happen to solve the current bottleneck of input/ouput between soldier and machine. Think of how fast you can think of something vs how much more delay it causes to put that into a command over a keyboard interface.

The companies which develop these machines may be partly responsible if their product goes on an error-driven rampage and destroys a bunch of equipment. By melding them with a human operator for guidance the (((liability))) can become one of human error rather than strictly shoddy development.

Service, transport, middle management and factory jobs will all take massive hits.
Transport will all but disappear as a career thanks to self-driving vehicles.
Service will take a big hit at the retail end as self-serve kiosks and automated stores become more widespread, but restaurant-end service will persist for a while still.
Factory jobs will be cut by 75% as automation starts hitting hard.
Middle Management positions in companies will be almost entirely erased by AIs that can do a middle manager's entire job basically for free.

STEM jobs will be the most resilient, but all jobs that require a high variation of skill will persist for the next 50 years.

It's likely just better to centralize the intelligence and use drone limbs to execute. When one breaks send a new limb and resume. Either fix or recycle the old one. A collection of domain AIs working through drones could learn a godlike amount of experience and be unassailable in terms of proficiency. It won't even be reasonable for untrained AIs to break into their markets.
