Face of the people who sank all their money into the FX edition

>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

Retail Foreign Exchange (FX) Trading:
While FX trading is still considered a widespread practice of personal investment in Japan, its risk-prone nature has also led to the stigmatization of currency trading as a form of get-rich-quick-scheme, and as a result, Japanese FX investors who lament about their heavy losses have become a frequent target of online ridicule and mockeries, especially on 2channel and Nico Nico Douga (NND), where some users regularly make trades through its real-time streaming service.

You should always set goals for yourself. Is it a short term investment? Intermediate term? Long term?
Also, like others said make sure to ALWAYS look at the graph and set stop-loss accordingly. You shouldn't have to sit and fear having an investment rolling on, set a stop in profit and let it roll if you want to keep it in.

You should never put in money into a stock without a plan.. that usually ensures a loss.

Buying into a franchise is a trap. You will never make money that way.

Starting your own business and creating your own brand is tough and requires decades of experience. When I started my business I was working 100+ hours a week for less than minimum wage and I did that for 2 years. Add in the stress of not covering expenses and staving off loans and you are in for a miserable experience.

Believing you will make it big on a wish and a prayer is not going to cut it. Unless daddy gives you a mil to start your own business, you are in for the worst experience of your life.

Alright, but do the math. Research what the franchise fees are. Many times it's as much as 30%. That's off the top, not profit. Think about the additional costs you'll have scaled down to 1 restaurant. Meet with someone who owns a franchise of the same restaurant. Of course the company will pretend as though you can make 200k a year, but I think that's a very optimistic view and in the end you're still taking on the risk for that company so that money comes at a potenial cost.

I quit my job in September and decided to trade full time after being fairly successful. Turns out, it was the worst decision of my life. I made a comfortable salary, in a starting position at my place of work. Now, I've been reduced to a broken shell of my former self. Trading has ruined my life in a matter of months. This is a rigged game. You're better off avoiding the market and just saving up cash.

In poor economic conditions, fast food become a luxury so naturally people consume more of it. Is it a safe bet? No. Can it make money? Yes.

What you need to remember is that a fast food franchise will cost you between $300k and 400k in start-up costs. In poor economic conditions, banks won't sign loans and you won't find capital to start the business in the first place.

In 2018, in my city, 60% of all new businesses folded within the first year. I saw four popular fast food franchises fold within months in a new shopping complex nearby. Imagine laying out $300k only to fold in 4 months without recouping ANY of those losses.

My martial arts business cost $30k to start up and I spent about $40k over the first year in operating costs. The majority of that went to rent. It folded as well, but at least I didn't need to declare bankruptcy.

Business is cutthroat and it doesn't matter how good your idea is if your execution sucks.

>The Securities and Exchange Commission today filed insider trading charges against a former senior attorney at Apple whose duties included executing the company’s insider trading compliance efforts.

>The SEC’s complaint alleges that Gene Daniel Levoff, an attorney who previously served as Apple’s global head of corporate law and corporate secretary, received confidential information about Apple’s quarterly earnings announcements in his role on a committee of senior executives who reviewed the company’s draft earnings materials prior to their public dissemination. Using this confidential information, Levoff traded Apple securities ahead of three quarterly earnings announcements in 2015 and 2016 and made approximately $382,000 in combined profits and losses avoided. The SEC’s complaint alleges that Levoff was responsible for securities laws compliance at Apple, including compliance with insider trading laws. As part of his responsibilities, Levoff reviewed and approved the company’s insider trading policy and notified employees of their obligations under the insider trading policy around quarterly earnings announcements.

w/o a doubt.

whole lot of factors which is not making the stock market have a "bright" future. China trade, shutdown looming, Venezuela, dollar impending crash, massive debts and defaulting on loans from citizens, etc.

This period is make as much as you can from these bull sprints. The bear is staring from the forest line and he doesn't give a fuck about the trees.

no. you need to compare on a risk-adjusted basis. anyone can vastly outperform the market in an upyear if they just buy a 3x leverage ETF. but thats not alpha, it's identical risk adjusted returns. the problem when looking at hedge funds is finding an appropriate benchmark. it's not a trivial issue. if you build synthetic portfolios to be thebenchmarks based on asset allocation disclosures from various hedge funds, they rarely outperform the market on a risk adjusted and statistically significant basis. also after fees, they tend to destroy wealth

Okay so they main reason they profit so largely is leverage? You ever dabbled in leveraging?
In fact has anyone here tried it. I mean there are some stock you know for sure will pick up about for a quick short within a maximum period of a month.
So what's the downside to leveraging?
Cause you can make some big money with little money via those means proved the stock doesn't unfortunately drop. That aside though.

no, I'm not saying they pick up high ROI from leverage, though they often are leveraged. they just expose themselves to different risks in the market, and are compensated for taking on those risks. but they don't take on those risks in isolation, hence the "hedge" part of hedge funds. all I was saying is that ROI isn't a good metric to compare between firms or strategies since it doesn't capture differences in risk exposure.

I don't see why not. Whilst they have certain products that compete they've also all got vastly other different markets that they're really targeting which they dominate in unconstested against eachother.
I'm interested in comp tech quite abit so I know even though intel and amd are CPUs. Intel also has alot of other fields they have moved into and even if intel steals some of their market they'll manage to get back in the groove in a few years. During that time they have other markets to support them. Just as AMD has managed so far even though their GPUs suck balls but they've got the console market in their pocket with Xbox and Sony buying their GPUs.
And you've got Nvidia that's just a juggernaut and even if AMD manages to pull something amazing off with their upcoming Navi it'll take time to grab significant marketshare and Nvidia has got their deeplearning and self driving car bullshit among other things.
Honestly they've all got growth in their future so I see no reason not to put in money.
Albeit, and recently last week lost another senior position which adds to actually quite a few in the past two years.
No one says why they're retiring or cutting themselves loose but it's might be something to be concerned about.
Same with intel hiring the best engineer's in the market since last year to work on their attempt to jump into the gpu market. Aswell as better their CPU line up.
