Bad advice. I dropped out of college and have been a software engineer for almost four years now. A college degree for me at this point would be 100% worthless
If you can get a job with your own skill, then there's no need for a piece of really expensive paper

See if the employer will pay for it? I think the degree is worth it. Also, interviews are a scam and you can't learn anything about a person through it. Write down core good values that you have and stress those during the interview.
