Learn from MNGA, learn from MNKD.. a reverse split approaches and AFTER will 99% of times always result in losses. If you want to stay with the company buy back after it stabilizes POST reverse split, but even then it's a slow bleed off.. look at MNGA current charts

With my div portfolio and my mutual funds and including capital gains? I averaged approx. $1650 last year per month (just about 20K last year), but the vast majority of that ($11K) came in December with my mutual fund distributions. Hence the reason I set up the payday calendar, to get a semblance of distribution for when I retire. I mean I could just save all the December gains and hold it over for the next year but I don't want to have to continually wait for December when I retire. I plan on never touching any principal so I still have a ways to go.

Multiple reasons:

Diversification: I have 22 positions alone in my dividend portfolio over all different sectors.

History: Most are dividend aristocrats, which keeps risk low.
Selling: I try and hold forever but if the fundamentals of a company change, I sell the stock (sold Wynn for a gain, GE for a very small loss).

DCA: I dollar cost average all my stocks. Am I currently down about 5% on ATT? Yes, but at todays prices I can DCA down again to close to where it is. Plus my DRIP DCA's automatically

Income: Share price, unless the fundamentals drastically change, don't matter to a dividend growth portfolio. Is it nice? yes. Is it what I care about most? nope. When KO hit 20 during the recession, all I did was buy more because a company like that doesn't just go away because there's a recession. Most my stocks are consumer defensive, therefore I fare better than most during recessions anyway.
