Is this a better solution than an apartment? Would co-workers and employers still take you seriously if you lived in one of these?

>> No.12676248

>>12676183
no

>> No.12676272

i don't think you would save all that much compared to an apartment of similar comfort, maybe a few thousand per year if you're lucky

depends on your industry. If you're in one that would be concerned you probably don't need to do it

It's funny because if it floats on water, you wouldn't even ask this question and worship the idea.

Let's try this again in these terms:
>Is this a better solution than an apartment?
Holy fuck yes.

>Would co-workers and employers still take you SERIOUSLY if you lived in one of these?
HAHAHAHA

In that contrast, yes it's a better solution than an apartment, yes most would still take you seriously(even if you had a yacht, there would still be those who won't.)

No one would be happy if you rolled into the employers parking lot everyday in a class c. A totally stealth econoline van is also probably too much vehicle.

A boat at a marina has to be much more secure. Leave the van overnight off private property and it will get broken into.

that thing is for people who have retired and already made lots of money. its not for saving money. if you want that then get a much older, non-mercedes camper.

Boat fag here. Been living aboard 4.5 years. All said and done, I'm paying about half the average rate to live in my location.

I also love boating. So do females.

is it hard to learn to sail?

>> No.12677644

Sailing is the easy part. Maintaining and troubleshooting the systems on a large vessel is the hard part, but everything's online. Very rewarding hobby, it doubles as an exit strategy for the rat race.

It really depends.
Depends on the quality of your rig, inside and out. Is it an off-the-shelf "adventure vehicle" that you bought? is it a totally stealth van? is your industry stiff and very traditionally professional as in suit and tie or is it a tech or backend biz that is more accepting of alternative ideas?

if you build a very nice, apartment on wheels that does have shitty "single dude in his twenties" hacks like a bucket for a toilet then yeah, totally cool, although you'll get some questions and you'll have to make sure to have a permanent mailing address. would be a lot more acceptable if you had a dependable parking spot like fi your rented a spot in a friends house for low cost.

I myself dream of building a schoolie (school bus conversion). A lot of my ideas are pipe dreams that are stuck on the wish list due to how expensive a lot of it can be but I think I'd solve 90% or more of the issues associated by beefing up suspension, doing a tesla ev conversion in the rear to give extra power and also act as the battery bank. slide out solar to increase capacity, and a well-built pop top master bedroom so I don't have to deal with fold out couches or lack of privacy. of course I'd also want to insulate the hell out of it and put in actual bulkhead doors and secret cut-off switches for security and peace of mind but it's still only in the planning stage. the tesla drivetrain alone would cost 20-30k not even counting the instal and wiring and any modifications needed to make it fit.

ehh, maybe one day, after the next crypto bull0run when I have 100k burning a hole in my pocket

No, I would only live in one of these if I lived in NYC/SF and could leverage my income to buy more rental property. Buy it with cash ofc to reduce debt to income ratio.

depending on where you live and what your work is, a van can definitely work. financially for me it made a ton of sense and i did it for a few years. i never told my coworkers but the only ones that said anything about it to me were positive or at least curious about it -- granted i spent most of that time freelancing though.

I want to do this too anon, with something like pic related. It's been a dream for a long time but it was only that...a dream. That was years ago but now that I recently became homeless, I'm really thinking of doing it. I have a job already and a tiny bit saved. If I can find a van for a few thousand I swear I'll pull the trigger.

Does anyone have buying tips?

Yeah you just need to check in with customs if you're making landfall. Many countries let you apply for a tourist visa right there, so you'll be allowed to stay 30-90 days.

You're better off researching ahead of time and checking out what kinda shots you should get, any forms they'll require, what's legal, etc... Worst case they turn you away, but you can still get supplies and shit.
