Have some kind of 30-second "pitch" about yourself thought out beforehand. Something about who you are, why you're a good fit, etc. It's likely that the person interviewing you hasn't done more than glance over your resume, so summarising what kind of skills you have and what you bring to the table is a pretty typical thing to do.

Thanks, that's great advice. I meant about what to say about the gap, since I've had interviews for months with no luck

It mostly revolves in what you don't say, like knocking before entering, asking permission to use a chair or a table you don't own, the tone of voice when you speak, and insinuations you plant. A small part of it is the actual technical knowledge which is mostly passed to the documentation section.

Just say that you've been applying for jobs. They might ask where else you've interviewed, so mentioning those other places is fine. You might be able to bullshit some stuff about volunteering, travel, helping a friend with a small startup, etc., but I'm sure they've heard it all before. The fact that they're calling you in for an interview is proof that they don't mind the 1 year gap that much compared to your other qualities.

If they ask you what you've been doing for a year, just say you were traveling. If they ask tell some stories about old vacations you took and make it sound like you did it last year.

Oh and if you're applying to some kind of professional job you might want to keep up with industry news to prove that you haven't just been vegetating at home, jacking off (which you have, but never mind).

>why'd you leave your last job
because i had to work an 80 hour work week with no paid overtime in addition to hordes of other bullshit
>so? you're supposed to take it up the ass, you're salaried
god i fucking hate recruiters

You're not supposed to bitch about your old job, you're supposed to make up feel-good bullshit about "wanting to go in a different direction" or "developing other skills". Never bad-mouth anyone in an interview, especially not your previous employer.

they never accept the fluffy answers, they'll just ask again in an annoyed tone. and that's not bad mouthing
