No, literally do 5 minutes of research. There are a few mobile wallets that are "trusted" though I would never use one. There's also a webwallet if you want to do that.

You can sync the GUI wallet with a remote node instead of syncing the entire blockchain yourself (trustlessly, which is why it takes so long). You chose the "worst" option if you just want a quick and easy wallet but it's also the most secure option.

get an SSD, it's easy to set up the GUI to sync the chain in whatever location you want. I recommend Samsung T5 500GB. I get 4 blocks per second whenever I sync currently using that. Usability is certainly an issue but the main problem I think Monero is going through now is the internal blowup over Kovri which seems to be not happening and now contingency plans put in place.

It seems to be because the guy who headed it has mismanaged the project clearly and it isn't ready after all this time along with other contributors who worked on the project, from what I can understand of the shitstorm. And on top of that, he is offering a new bigger Kovri replacement and asking for funding on that, which is just a giant WTF out of nowhere when he hasn't finished Kovri and doesn't want to because he feels it isn't viable but then kept working on Kovri anyways. Whole thing is a mess and I hope the coin doesn't split the dev community because of it.

It's frustrating because according to him he's like "95% done" but just sees it as a dead end at this point so he wants to give up on it.

It doesn't really make any sense. Monero has never been perfect and to say that Kovri, in it's "not good enough for anonimal" state is worse than having nothing at all is retarded on his part. The guy got funding, he should finish the project, whether he believes it's as good as Sekreta or whatever or not. They'll get it sorted out, just frustrating that they got so close and now this happens.

I don't honestly care what happens in the end since I think this drama is relatively small compared to the shitstorms other coins have had but the whole thing about him not wanting to cooperate with the core team now about the project, and wanting to only interacting with his donors, is a problem since he is being explicitly abrasive to the people who he doesn't want to interact.

One of the big things that was never resolved explicitly to this point is when contributors add to an FFS, is it direct to the proposer? Because to fund an FFS, which I have done, you send to a wallet that is handled by what is essentially the core team so technically, he has to answer to the core team which I think is appropriate given how you can't track down everyone who donated and people may not want to reveal themselves for trying to direct something they didn't want to get involved with in the first place so I feel like the core team should have authority here, with individual contributors being able to voice their concerns as well with the core team.

I ultimately think it was sad that Monero wasn't ready for conflict resolution of this magnitude and this situation is exposing a lot of flaws. Hopefully they get past it.

They won't java, i2pd and c and cpp code being inserted into monero code as a routing implementation of whatever the fuck they want to call it this week will certainly kill it off.

There is so many holes in that shit they'll have to rename monero to swiss or something because those languages are pretty fucking broken from a security perspective and you will be spending the better part of a decade of using that kind of shit.

the only way out of this shit is to keep monero and kovri as separate applications, because that's what they are, one cryptocurrency and one router.

Agreed, I think they're working on ways to move past it. Nothing set in stone yet but it looks like they may just go ahead and implement (or maybe, make compatible with) a version of tor-i2p that is specifically not part of anonimal's work on Kovri, as a temporary measure to get "something" related to IP privacy integrated into Monero. I can't say I understand the ins and outs of it, but that's what I gather from the most recent updates. Whether or not that's a good thing, who knows.

I think in the future the FFS is going to undergo a major revision because of this in which much more detailed checkpoints are going to need to be hit in order to actually receive funding. There is no way any of this goes down if he wasn't already fully funded. Essentially, the core team trusted this guy with a bunch of Monero to finish the project that was proposed and he has told them to fuck off. It's obviously not the way FFS is supposed to work.
