Dev here. The actual reason consensus runs off a full node is because it's not vulnerable to 51% attacks and it's much easier to work with while other features of the coin are in development.

Obelisk exists and it works, there's not really a reason to release it until we have more of the features implemented and Skywire is running as it should.

There's not really any consensus method on the market that works. I see at least a report per month of this coin or that getting 51% attacked. You won't see such sloppiness from Skycoin.
