Here’s a tip : there’s always a golden window for old cars. Right now it’s late 80s and early 90s. If you can pick up the right car on the cheap and fix it up, they are soon to become ‘classic’. Want to talk about a nice return. Could go 10x

Also hands down first car should be a van, as you can get laid in that and crash so no drink and drive.

The next best thing is a Jeep that things a pussy wagon but you can’t lay a woman in that

My 1988 Fiero. I also drive a 91 Civic EF hatch which is also fun in a different sort of way.

Id get a Civic SI for a first fun car - 2012 should be pretty cheap-ish at this point.

second the van, if you can get a cheap van or station wagon it's a very practical choice.
pickup trucks and certain SUVs too.

what do I drive?
I got a used XC90 about a year ago. If you live near the right kind of area, what you should do is this: be on the lookout for a good deal on a used car that might have some years, but low mileage, good condition, and all service records. What I'm talking about are old people cars: some upper-middle class grandma car that sat for a few years in a garage, (but was serviced) and has now depreciated.
If you have a careful eye, you can find vehicles in extremely good condition very cheap. From a private seller or a used car dealer.
pay cash, of course.

Cars really aren't a good investment unless you can service them professionally yourself and have climate controlled garages to house them.

I don't think millenials and gen z are going to masturbate over cars in their old age like boomers do.

That said, meme cars do increase in price. Think Toyota ae86, purely because of a gook cartoon.

For a car to have investment potential it needs to be more than the sum of its parts.

Diesel is a meme in the US. Like 40% of stations have diesel. if you care about the advantages of diesel, you should probably just get an electric car anyway.

Yeah but you'd have to plan out your trip because not every station has diesel. You could easily go NY-LA on electric, too, with roughly the same planning. You would have to stop a lot, but also how often are you traveling NY-LA? Well over 99 pct of your travel will be within 100 miles of your home.

You could carry 71 gallons with extended fuel tanks. Non stop.

The point is diesel is the most efficient internal combustion engine. It's why trucks and europoors use them.

The only reason why amerifats don't do diesel is because cost isn't really a factor for you. America has the cheapest fuel in the Western world.

That's literally not a feasible option in many parts of the country. I live in a major midwestern city where public transit had to be put to a referendum and we're just now building our first rapid transit lines. Many bus stops around town see service every few hours, at best. I certainly hope I don't have to explain to the /biz/ board why Uber/Lyft are not viable options either...
