MEGA BULL edition

>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, stop making the general with trips, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

You are correct that CA will not let PG&E fail. That would be highly irresponsible because people need the power provided for by PG&E. However, CA will not let PG&E succeed, either. In CA, any fire started by electrical equipment is the fault of PG&E, even if PG&E could not have reasonably prevented it. So PG&E will go bankrupt every 10 years or so.

PG&E may eventually recover and resume dividends, but not for months or years.

They want to let them fail, but enough people realize that you literally cant let the only electricty provider for half the state fail, break the power grid, and then have no recourse for paying back the people impacted by the fires. They also cant let a bunch of idiots take control of the grid by 'nationalizing' it just to spite the company, since that'd be a recipe for 10x worse wildfires with the state themselves being held liable next year.

>>12472418
>wait a week or two
They're going through bankruptcy procedures on the 28th. Enough people will realize what the jig is by then. I'd get in now, or at least set some limit orders. We'll probably test a $4 bottom at worst over the next week, assuming we havent tested the true bottom already. Then its largely just gonna move upward from there.

your roth IRA is tax sheltered, so its slightly better to but your tax inefficient stuff like bonds into your roth IRA and more tax efficient stuff (like non-dividend paying stocks) into your brokerage. however, dont worry about it when you're starting out, your plan seems good to me. YOU KNOW THIS CAN ONLY MEAN ONE THING

TARIFFS ARE GONE

>> No.12473137

The idea of lifting some or all tariffs was proposed by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin in a series of strategy meetings, according to people close to internal deliberations. They say the aim is to advance trade talks and win China’s support for longer-term reforms.

But Mr. Mnuchin faces resistance from U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, who is concerned that any concession could be seen as a sign of weakness, these people said.

The debate is occurring as trade officials try to figure out the best way to pry concessions from China. It hasn’t yet reached President Trump, and the outcome of the discussions aren’t possible to forecast.

In past China discussions, Mr. Trump has sided with Mr. Lighthizer on tariffs, rather than Mr. Mnuchin. But this time, the president has made clear he wants a deal—and is pressing Mr. Lighthizer to deliver one, according to people familiar with the discussions.

The U.S. and China are seeking to resolve their trade dispute ahead of a March 1 deadline. At 12:01 a.m., the following day, tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods are scheduled to jump to 25% from the current 10%. The higher levies could batter U.S. importers and further harm an already weakening Chinese economy.

so in the future if i buy any bonds as i get older: thsoe should go into my annual ROTH, instead of a basic brokerage account like Robinhood/when I move everything over to Vanguard? I have no bonds since im 24 and am willing to take on recession risk since im 15-20~ years from retirement.

When the time comes: bonds into ROTH and pure equities into brokerage, as a general rule then?

What if your model is that democratic political governance has just stopped working—not because you disagree with the particular policies that particular elected governments are carrying out, but because you have started to notice that elected governments in large developed nations are increasingly unable to carry out any policies at all? What if, meanwhile, corporations are actually good at doing stuff? Corporations, after all, are built to do stuff: They are hierarchical organizations with clear lines of authority that have to report on their accomplishments every three months. Democratic governments are built to be deliberative, with checks and balances to prevent rash unilateral action by any one person, but in some cases the effect of those safeguards is to prevent anything at all from happening.

>Plus we are recovering way too fast from bear levels.

It isn't fake. Of course it's manipulated in the sense that all market moves are to some degree. If you look back to previous market corrections (2011, 2015/16, the first one in 2018), this kind of bounce isn't that unusual off the lows. However, I agree the recovery is too speedy and is building thin or nonexistent supports on the way up. In the next few days, maybe a couple weeks, there will be another fast drop but not necessarily a deep one. Some consolidation, then whatever happens from there. I am not shorting in these conditions. Only going long or holding in cash.

Especially when you consider Disney is already getting paid for their content and making a ton of revenue in theaters and television broadcasting. Any revenue from streaming is literally free money.

There is LITERALLY, UNIRONICALLY, no way that Netflix can compete long term. In fact I don't know why they didn't try some sort of merger or to get acquired by Disney earlier. They are on borrowed time.

I've traded leveraged CFDs intentionally (to play the volatility on very specific news on stocks I have an understanding of if I'm around just as the news hit) and I don't panic or have "weak hands" then and always made overall profit intraday when I did so and do cut losses when I rationally see that things aren't going the way I predict, and do take profit instead of waiting greedily when I think its unlikely to go up a lot more or reaches close to an upper resistance line.

Just, this time was post-market and the price was super volatile and the leverage was really high so I immediately closed as soon as possible to avoid getting justed. I don't hold positions or trade on days or news where I haven't planned it out and have a strategy based on several possible scenarios I reckon are possible based on my ideas of how other traders are going to behave. Protecting my principal is the most important to me. An unplanned position where I have no idea how it will go is better cut off at a low loss than risking much more loss when I don't have a plan or understanding of the price action worked out.

non accredited investors in my country are super cucked on leveraged stock positions on international stocks on stock brokers, so I'm glad there are CFD sites that allow trading up to 5x leverage for us. some of the CFD sites have pretty predatory and veiled pricing schemes though so people who don't to due diligence can end up on the meme ones and get majorly succed.

i've never used them, but i assume you trade based on current market price - similar to futures, no? while options do have time decay as a factor, you can determine your strike price which enables more flexibility with hedging positions, or writing calls for the underlying at a price in which you;'re comfortable buying (if it hits the strike).

You can usually find positions that are statistically favorable for success, but if you lose, you lose pretty big.

Pic related is a mediocre one on SPY. If it doesn't go up or down ~$2 by the end of the day tomorrow, you'd make 25% on your risk--which isn't bad for a single day. Based on the deltas, there's only a ~20% chance on each end that the condor would end up ITM. It's gambling to be sure, though.
