Fuckin RIP dude.
My train of thought was just that if you didn't have the expense of gas and insurance, you'd be making enough to meet your monthly expenses. I live in a place where I can walk no matter where I need to go and it's fine though.

Yeah I live in a suburban area so no luck there.

If I can do something about my car situation ($282/mo lease, since I got it while I was making more at my old job) I can probably float by on my savings until I finish school, but it'll be tight.

It wasn't a bad idea at the time. It was ~5% of my income when I got it, but the job made me miserable and I left after a couple of years. Now it's about 15% of my income.

The money I was making was better put into investments (where I made bretty good returns) rather than down payment on a car.
>>12406549
I pay ~$40/month for my phone bill, depending on data used. It's about as basic as you can get.

My rent is 51% of my income. My car is another 20%.

I wish I could help you, but anyone who leases a car is beyond help. Buy something cheap and reliable in cash. I'm sure you have some bullshit excuse for not doing this but I really don't care. Grow some bootstraps, millenial.

Yeah midwest here, too. Share a house with my girlfriend. Living on roughly $800 a month. Main thing is I don't have a car and in turn don't pay to use/maintain one, plus I'm still 25 so I'm still under my parents' insurance.

Shit's gonna hit hard when I turn 26 though, plus my current job doesn't offer literally any benefits.

Rent and utilities are $1080 of your budget. Get roommates and it cuts that down to ~$400 lets say. You're spending $150 on health insurance which is a scam unless you're obese, and you are leasing a car for $300 when you should be driving a 200K mile Civic/Corolla to 350K+ miles with routine maitenance.

There you go, $1130/mo saved after you buy the used Honda/Toyota, cancel insurance, and get roommates. Car insurance will prob drop too. Now you can save 10K a year.

>> No.12406708

Just curious what car you're leasing? I pay 178 a month for a 2016 Jetta with bells and whistles. Gonna have to buy that fucker come September cuz I'm at 53k miles but was only allowed 36k plus I don't feel like paying the miles+shellong out more for another down payment. I like the car anyway

Thanks. I'm currently car shopping but I had an older car before and it was a nightmare, since it always needed repairs and was expensive as fuck to do those repairs. I ended up getting the lease when it became cheaper than the repairs to my previous vehicle. I just wanted something safe and reliable, which it has been.

I go to the doctor fairly often, so I can't cancel it unfortunately. Even getting a cheaper one will probably bite me in the ass. I was actually getting it for free when I was unemployed and that coverage is better than what I'll be paying for...

what kind of car. it sounds like it's too expensive. You can finance a 5-7 year old corolla that will last 150k+ more miles for well under $200/month and it will retain value reasonably well
