>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

So I decided to see what happened if you invested your income monthly in the market versus saving it and investing it only if the price went down relative to the last month. Seems that the cost of missing out on the gains of getting your money in earlier offset whatever benefit there was of cost averaging down with this strategy. Or maybe I just fucked something up somewhere down the line, who knows.

I think capitalism in its normal course, especially when high accumulation is encouraged like right now, lends itself towards large boom and bust cycles.

But this isn't quite the same as permabull, since I don't know and infact am quite skeptical of the fact that there's much real gains to be made from just buying and holding long term because the crashes can put you back to previous lows sometimes, and the time you need to way to guarantee higher real returns by the market (40-50 years) also means you're exposed to higher ecological and political risks. Capitalism has only been around 400 years or so, most governments last a far shorter time than that and nothing lasts forever.

Quite the opposite of a permabull, I'm trying to get the full gains of the boom while avoiding the bust because I'm aware that the market may not be around long enough to guarantee high returns over the scale of my entire life.

I think you're missing the point a bit here, a change in the system of government can be a very disruptive thing for the economy. Hence, it's a political risk as I mentioned.

The US has had this republican system of government for 200 some odd years, as the other anon pointed out. Realistically, you can't expect it to be around forever. It may not be 50 years, it may not be another 200 years, no one can know, but the end will come eventually. Time destroys all things.

>>12401223
Not necessarily, it has it's own risks as a brick and mortar retailer. For example it went down most recently because of the impact of hurricane season to it's predicted earnings.

notice how the system of government has changed quite often for many modern nations, while USA's is older than most of the modern countries, easily

government does not mean the same thing as country or nation

government is a system that determines how laws are made and enforced, for example, a king or dictator can outlast multiple different forms of government he rules in/with

Any attack or conflict in an oil producing country would surely cause prices to rise, due to concerns of a shortage. Similarly, OPEC s goal will be to raise prices, by talking about adherence to current production cuts and possibly threatening more cuts. But really any new conflict or incedent in ME would raise prices.

Catalysts for lower prices are no resolution to the trade war, overproduction in US and CA, and OPEC members cheating on production volumes.

Just to confirm, this is how an option call works right?

I purchase the RIGHT to buy something.

Say I buy 1 call option at 1$ for a total of $100.
The underlying stock is worth $20.

In order to exercise this option, I now have to PAY 100 * $20 = $2000. In order to actually receive my stocks.

Right? So I didn't receive the stocks for the premium I paid, I received the stocks for the premium + the strike price.

But remember that you also paid $1.00 ($100) for the option, so you'll want to add that cost to your cost basis in addition to any commissions or fees. It really is mostly gambling. Though I think the AMD put yesterday was a semi-sure thing.
The event was pretty much the peak of the hype and when the stock price showed weakness I threw a few k at it.
Aside from that I wouldn't recommend high leverage options unless you really don't care about the money.
And the most important thing is to cut your losses as soon as you see that it doesn't pan out.
The longer you stay in the red the close you get to liquidation cause you start thinking "I'd rather risk losing it all than swallow the loss."
And only bet on things that you're rather sure of. Don't take random positions.

>lots of people were dissapointed by CES but the real moneymaker for AMD is how they are poising to take over the server space with their more efficient chips

People were overhyped by rumors. Their new GPU had a disappointing price point.

But their server CPUs are a no-brainer. They kinda sandbagged the performance of their upcoming Zen2 consumer CPUs, but it's already on par with Intel's 9900k with almost half the power draw - on a shitty engineering sample. With Lisa Su confirming that we will see more than 8 cores, the rumored 12 and 16 core variants are right on track. Although the rumored prices that drove people nuts are uncertain, now that they've fucked up the GPU price.
