The richest white countries are countries like Norway or Switzerland, they never enslaved anyone, at least not black people as you envision, the vikings though did actually enslave other Europeans, but we are talking about the 850 AD. On the long run african slavery was more of a burden than anything else, and coincidentally the poorest regions in the American continent coincide with the highest percentage of black slaves presence in the past, like the American South, the Caribbean and Brazil, while Uruguay, Chile, Argentina or the American North-East barely had ever any african slaves. Wagecuckery of irishmen and other poor Europeans was always way more productive, dynamic and cost-effective than owning a slave, feeding him, treating his medical expenses, having him (and his family later on) living in your property, etc.
