Mine are in the 60s, bought their first apartment for like 10k(this is in EU) in the 80s, moved 4 times up to now and I guess the current house is worth 800-900k

One of my parents "paid off a summer house because being in debt felt bad". They also complain about that restaurants are sooo expensive and yet complain about young people not getting a stable house/wife etc

They buy most clothes at like mid range super markets(shirts for 30, trousers 20), but there is no problem going on a 2 week 4-5 star all included holiday in Asia or Greece

They can not live without two cars, most of my friends can not even afford one due to parking lot fees.

They buy art or furniture for like 5-10k per piece max, but buying a new sound system for like 500 euros is "not worth it". The TV speaker is good enough

Sounds like Euro boomers care a lot about seeming posh and cultured. While American boomers just want to have the biggest everything

parents bought their first apartment for 18k (Sydney after all....) and their first house for 35k...sold that for a shameful 700k. flipped that to a new house they sold for 1.4 MM. Got divorced, split it for 2 new houses each worth 2 MM now. They are clueless.. 70 now , unhealthy and soon to die. I made a lot in 2017 from BTC. I will watch them rot and die. I dont care. Boomers ruined the world

yes, that's a big difference I guess. It's not about "seem" though, they actually do buy and use nice things.

But one difference is the amount of land available in US, much more room for everything compared to like central Copenhagen or Amsterdam
