Sup /biz/

I'm currently 21 studying first year English Literature at a uni in Britbongland.

It is true that university is a meme, I applied last year as I was working in a call centre which was life worse then death. I'm finding the course and life at university to be rather miserable to be honest, the work set is trite and I feel to be absolutely useless knowledge.

The problem is not with dropping out, I have no qualms about that - but what on earth is the alternative if I were to do this? I have mediocre A-levels and quite a rounded CV working lots of minimum wage jobs and I am knowlegable and well presenting. I have played football at a semi-professional level, I know this won't get me a job in itself but I'm abled bodied and potential employers do like this in a person.

So, TLDR: 21 years old thinking of dropping out of uni, what sort of employment could I take which would be a honest way of life?

Either learn a trade that gives you some actual skills or tough it out at uni

Finish your degree, make most of uni time and opportunities
If not, finish 1st year and maybe change the course

Btw, afaik british students receive quite generous support from government for spendings and all, so no idea why would you give it up for some shit job netting you 1700-2000gbp

What do you mean with mediocre A-levels? Did you take the wrong subjects?
If I were you, I'd look for university education in Germany. You can probably find a way around your mediocre A-levels that way, I think quite a few economy related studies don't require a lot.
Lots of courses in English, and the reason for Germany is the free tuition of course. Plus international degrees look good, you might even learn the language.

The latter there seems the most logical, trades in the UK aren't like America. I wish there was a way to get into a good business at the groundfloor.

You say it's a hobby, learning to read and write is a great skill applicable to many fields - sales, business, journalism. Read this https://www.artofmanliness.com/articles/value-of-liberal-arts-education/.. I say minimum wage, I was working my ass off doing overtime at a job and made 14k in 6 months, made mad crypto gains aswell. I am still thinking of going into teaching desu.

I took English literature, economics and law. English was strong, the other 2 average. Will look into German uni.

I think you're right desu, although at times I think why am I doing this. There is upside to it all, I have good mates here and football is fun. Some jobs I would want to do require a degree, teaching abroad for good money, even the police force in the UK requires a degree now. I will practice stoicism or some shit and get it under wraps.

I was working a call centre job last year and thought fuck it, if I get an English degree it's only 3 years of my life, I'll meet and fuck bitches in a big city, learn a language on the side and teach in South America for a while and when I return I could get another sales type job with a small sized company or teach somewhere. I just turned 21 aswell, I'll be 23 when it's all done with. I am here now and the course is a meme, but I'm having a laugh I guess.

Why the fuck would you waste your money on an English degree?
You realise it gets paid shittily after graduation right?
What’re you planning to do after graduating?

drop out if you have an idea/dream. otherwise stay to delay the inevitable feeling of having no purpose in life (or to be in work drone mode).

feel free to try and find work while you study though and then if you find something good just drop out and enter the empty grind until the day you die

If you're really going to study English then you'll need to work your ass off and make excellent grades. Dunno how the system works in Britain but that along with good test scores will make it viable to pursue a career in law. I made my BA in English Lit work to my advantage by doing this.

Btw most people here will shit on your degree choice and call it impractical. But if literature is really what you're passionate about, then go for it. Just don't slack off and fuck up. That's how you become unemployable after graduation. Also, make sure to form good relationships with your professors. They might be able to better help you with professional matters than you'd realize.
