film grad here as well OP

i got lucky and took an internship with a large camera company as an "instructional designer"; aka you create corporate training videos.

the job is absolutely soul-sucking and about as far away from creative as you can get. but you know what? it pays very well for a recent grad and its piss easy.

i would highly recommend looking into instructional design internships if you at least want something that pays (a lot) better than target.

sad thing about film is that literally the o ly way to get a job you'd actually enjoy/isnt corporate is through connections. i did plenty of internships in college but didnt think of making connections, assuming connections would come with my first entry level gig. now here i am working in an unrelated field, unable to even get an entry level desk assistant job because i dont know anyone in the industry.

shits tough for everyone out of college, but for film? shit is impossible. not like we dont deserve it, if i could reverse 5 years i would scream in my face to get a degree in something remotely valuable to society.

As someone who also studied film (I'm not american so only 2k debt) you need to fucking market your film. If you had made any attempt to market it you wouldnt have less than 100 views.

You spent $20,000 on this and you're just waiting for people to find it on their own?
Send it into film festivals, shill it on /tv/ in filmmaking threads, post it everywhere.

Also, you need to independently work as a filmmaker. Look in local listings, there are usually small companies looking for people to do advertisements for them, go to local bands gigs and offer to shoot a music video for them, they will be excited about it guaranteed. Just get yourself out there. Build a showreel and maybe secure a nice job working at a tv channel or even a film studio, who knows.

Filmmaking has so much work potential and pays big $$$$. It's not just hollywood.
