Hey guys, I kind of missed some math classes due to illness. Can someone explain how to solve this question please

A discount rate of 4% which was a discount amount of $43.10 was offered on an item during a sale.

a. Calculate the list price of the item.

b. Calculate the net price of the item.

Hello my autistic frog fren, allow me to be of some help.

Generally the challenge of solving these kinds of problems is translating from english into algebra. I will tell you an easy way to go from english to algebra right now. Think of the sentence below:

$43.10 is 4 percent of the list price.

IS means equals. OF means multiply. We always write percentages as a decimal (move the demical over two places to the left). The list price is unknown, we will represent that as a variable. So we write the following equation:

43.10 = 0.04*x

Dividing both sides by 0.04 gives us the list price:

43.10/0.04 = x

x = $1077.50

That's the list price. The net price is just the list price minus the discount:

net price = 1077.50 - 43.10
net price = $1034.40
