Yes yes Faust is facinating stuff, and that is the conclusion of just one scholar, my own conclusion is that the mythos of Dr Faustus would be much more suited to an interpretation of selflessness if he were to have gained otherworldly knowledge not through a deal with the devil but through the grace of God. A deal with the devil catagorically signifies an ambition fed by selfish or an otherwise unjust condition, and this scholars interpretation seems to ignore what Dr Faustus did with his new found other worldy knowledge once he had made a deal with the devil, all of which were a play on human vices and all of which reinforce the idea that he did so out of self interest.
